Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have preserved the freedoms we enjoy every day. We are forever grateful to those who gave their lives in defense of our country and to the families who carry their legacy forward.

This EMS Week, we recognize Chief Fornaro, the Casa Grande Fire Department’s EMS Division Chief, whose leadership helps ensure the highest level of emergency medical care for our community.

Chief Fornaro oversees all aspects of our EMS program, including ambulance operations, EMS training and education, certifications, medical equipment and supplies, quality assurance, and service delivery. He also works closely with hospitals, healthcare partners, and the Arizona Department of Health Services to ensure our personnel have the resources, training, and support needed to provide exceptional patient care.

Behind every successful EMS response is a commitment to excellence, and Chief Fornaro’s dedication helps keep Casa Grande Fire Department at the forefront of emergency medical services.

We are grateful for the strong collaboration between our EMTs, Paramedics, and the dedicated healthcare professionals at Banner who work together every day to provide exceptional patient care.

At Casa Grande Fire Department, exceptional patient care starts with having the right tools. We currently have four in-service paramedic ambulances—all equipped with advanced medical technology to provide high-quality emergency care when it matters most.
Our paramedics are trained to the highest level and are committed to delivering outstanding patient care with rapid response times. Combined with our engine and ladder companies, these ambulances help us provide innovative, flexible, reliable emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of Casa Grande.

During EMS Week, we proudly recognize the dedicated professionals who support emergency medical services both in the field and behind the scenes.

Our EMS Administrative Assistant/Billing Specialist, Shannon Cole, plays a vital role in keeping our EMS system running smoothly. She manages ambulance billing and the revenue cycle by processing claims, verifying insurance information, resolving denials, and assisting patients with billing questions. Her work helps ensure our department remains financially strong so our crews can continue delivering lifesaving care to the community.

Shannon also helps uphold HIPAA standards, maintains accurate records, collaborates with insurance providers, and supports operational efficiency through her exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills. While her work happens behind the scenes, her contributions are essential to the success of emergency medical services every day.

Happy EMS Week! Today's Spotlight: Advancing Excellence Through Education

During EMS Week, the Casa Grande Fire Department is proud to recognize the critical role education plays in delivering exceptional emergency medical care to our community.

A key part of that effort is our EMS Educator, Mitch Saltzman, who has been with CGFD since June 2025. Mitch provides continuing education and hands-on training to our EMS personnel, ensuring they are equipped with the latest techniques, best practices, and life-saving skills used in the field today.

From classroom instruction to practical scenarios, Mitch’s dedication helps our firefighters and paramedics stay at the forefront of emergency medicine—so they are always prepared to provide the highest level of care when seconds matter most.

May is Water Safety Month!

To help reinforce the importance of water safety and emergency preparedness, the Casa Grande Fire Department partnered with Palm Island Family Aquatic Park to conduct a mock drowning rescue training.

During the exercise, lifeguards quickly "rescued" a male swimmer from the pool and immediately began CPR. CGFD crews were then dispatched to the scene and continued advanced life-saving care.

Training like this strengthens the teamwork between our firefighters and lifeguards and ensures we are ready to respond when every second counts.

As temperatures rise and more families head to the pool, remember:

👀 Always provide active adult supervision
🛟 Learn CPR
📱 Call 9-1-1 immediately in an emergency
