Happy last day of school!! The CPS Wildcats Library encourages you to take advantage of the summer reading programs and events for all ages at your local library this summer. Libraries are more than books: they offer programs for children, teens, and adults!

While library cards are free at the library in your county of residence, you typically don't need a library card to attend programs. Also, the Piedmont Public Library will allow Cashion residents to get a library card even if they aren't in Canadian County because they recognize that Cashion doesn't have a library particularly close.

Find out what programs are in store for you this summer at the , , , and Kingfisher Memorial Library .

OH MY GOODNESS!! With only one day left in school, we have only ONE high school student who hasn't resolved his or her library obligations. ONE!!

If your child is one of the 24 Cashion Public Schools students remaining on this list, you received an email today AND your child will bring home a packet today or tomorrow that explains how you can resolve your library obligations. It even includes a way to resolve the issue without having to pay for the book. Please take the time to read the letter and select the option that works best for your family.

We want all students in the library and reading. Please do not let overdue, lost, or damaged books be the reason your child doesn't come to the library. Let's find a resolution for all students.

With only two days left in the school year, we have made significant progress! At this point, we have one grade level in each building site that is completely clear of library obligations:
CES - First Grade
CMS - Seventh Grade
CHS - Twelfth Grade

Thank you to all of you who are taking responsibility for the library materials you have borrowed. Having books returned or replaced in a timely manner ensures that our library collection stays vibrant and our books are available for ALL students.

I'm so excited to announce that Cashion Public Schools library is the recipient of a Dollar General Summer Reading Grant!

These funds will be used to purchase several "Anytime, Anywhere Take-Home Book Packs" for students in PreK-4th grades. Each pack includes three grade-level appropriate books, one Family Literacy Guide, and one grade-level appropriate Student Reading Journal.

Once funds are received and take-home book packs are purchased, they will be available for checkout for students to take home over the summer to promote family literacy at home and prevent the "summer slide."

We are so grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for supporting this program!

Summer reading matters! ☀️📚

Research consistently shows that students who read during the summer are more likely to maintain — and even improve — their reading skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and academic confidence before heading back to school. Even just reading for fun can make a huge difference!

The best part? Reading doesn’t have to feel like homework. Comics, graphic novels, audiobooks, magazines, cookbooks, fantasy adventures, sports stories, and silly chapter books all count. Reading for pleasure helps kids and teens build stronger literacy skills while discovering what they truly love to read.

Summer is the perfect time to discover everything your local public libraries have to offer! ☀️📚

One of the coolest things about living in Cashion is that we’re right at the “four corners” of four counties—giving many families access to multiple amazing library systems and opportunities for FREE summer fun, reading challenges, prizes, crafts, classes, and events for all ages.

Depending on where you live, you may qualify for a free library card through:
📖 Metropolitan Library System (Edmond branch) https://www.metrolibrary.org/locations/edmond
📖 Kingfisher Memorial Library https://kingfisher.booksys.net/opac/kml/
📖 Guthrie Public Library https://guthrie.okpls.org/
📖 Piedmont Public Library https://www.piedmont.okpls.org/

Some libraries may also offer out-of-county cards, sometimes for a small fee. Even better? Most library programs and events are FREE to attend whether you have a library card or not!

From toddler storytimes to teen activities, adult workshops, reading programs, gaming events, crafts, and more—there’s something for everyone this summer.

Take advantage of the incredible resources right in our neighboring communities and make this your family’s most book-filled summer yet! 📚✨

Did you know? Mrs. Francis works at the Piedmont Public Library when she's not working at the Cashion Library. If she's working when you come by, be sure to tell her hi!

As your students walk the halls of the elementary school, they may see this certificate outside the door of a few classrooms. This certificate is posted with the teacher's name outside of each classroom in which ALL students have turned in ALL books and paid ALL book replacement costs. We only have three right now: Mrs. Toole, Ms. LaGasse, and Mrs. Phillips. However, we have several classes that are only one student away from their certificate:

Mrs. Beller
Ms. Buchalla
Mrs. Burwell
Mrs. Crow
Mrs. Phippen
Mrs. Roberts
Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Talcott
Mrs. Taylor
Mrs. Thomas

If you see your child's teacher on this list, and you have received an email about an overdue book or lost/damaged book replacement fine that you haven't taken care of yet, please return or replace the books so that your child's class can get their Super Library Friends certificate. We're soooo close!

We are also only ONE seventh grader away from that grade being completely clear.

Please return or replace your books this week!!

MONDAY UPDATE:
📚 Library Books: Let’s Finish Strong! 📚

We’ve made great progress—but we’re not done yet. This morning alone, we received 65 books back (valued at more than $1,100), which is a huge step in the right direction. Thank you to everyone who has already taken care of their library responsibilities!

👏 Special shoutout to Mrs. LaGasse, Mrs. Phillips, and Mrs. Toole’s classes for having ZERO outstanding library obligations—that’s exactly what we love to see!
👏 And 7th grade is just ONE student away from clearing the entire grade. So close!

That said, we still have nearly $1,700 in overdue, lost, or damaged materials outstanding. These books are part of a shared collection that every student depends on, and when they aren’t returned, it impacts everyone.

Please take a few minutes today to:
✔ Check backpacks, desks, bedrooms, and cars
✔ Return any overdue books
✔ Pay for any lost or damaged items

The longer items are missing, the less likely they are to come back in usable condition—so don’t wait until the last minute. Start looking now.

We appreciate your help in keeping our library collection strong, accessible, and ready for next year’s readers. 💙

As we approach the end of the school year, we need your help.

All library books and unpaid replacement costs are now overdue. We intentionally stop circulation two weeks before school ends because, historically, materials are not returned on time—and the longer items are overdue, the more likely they are to be lost or damaged beyond repair.

At this point in the year, our goal is simple:
0 books checked out, 0 students with library obligations, and $0 in outstanding replacement costs.

Unfortunately, we are not there. District-wide, we currently have 130 students with 182 missing or damaged books, totaling $2,779 in unreturned inventory and unpaid replacement costs.

The graphics below break this down further by school site and grade level.

We understand that life gets busy, but these materials belong to our entire school community, and we need everyone’s help to take care of them. Please take a moment this weekend to locate any library books and plan to return them—or take care of replacement costs—on Monday.

Thank you for helping us keep our library collection strong and available for all students.
