💧 **Why Are We Replacing Older Water Meters?** 💧
You may have noticed City of Charlotte crews replacing water meters throughout the community. While your current meter may appear to be working, replacing aging meters is an important investment in providing reliable, efficient water service for years to come.
One of the biggest advantages of our new smart water meters is that they communicate directly with our system. If a meter experiences a malfunction, we can often identify the issue right away and make repairs promptly—instead of waiting two or three months until the next manual reading cycle to discover the problem.
Here are a few other reasons we're replacing older meters:
🔹 **Improved Accuracy** – Water meters naturally wear out over time. New meters provide more accurate readings and help ensure customers are billed fairly.
🔹 **Early Leak Detection** – Smart meters can help identify unusual water usage, allowing both homeowners and the City to spot potential leaks sooner.
🔹 **Reliable Performance** – Older meters can fail due to age, corrosion, freezing temperatures, or normal wear and tear. Replacing them before they fail helps prevent service interruptions.
🔹 **Modern Technology** – Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) allows us to collect readings automatically, improving efficiency and reducing the need for manual meter reading.
🔹 **Preventive Maintenance** – Like any infrastructure, water meters have a lifespan. Replacing them on a planned schedule helps avoid unexpected failures and keeps our water system operating smoothly.
🔹 **Reduced Repair Costs** – Identifying problems early can reduce costly emergency repairs and improve customer service.
These upgrades are part of the City of Charlotte's ongoing commitment to providing safe, dependable, and efficient water service while investing in the future of our community.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue this important project. Together, we're building a smarter and more reliable water system for everyone. 💙💧
