They prepare meals, welcome students by name, and help make sure every child has what they need to learn. Their care reaches far beyond the cafeteria line.

📅 Middle and High Schools:
Thursday, October 22, 2:00–6:00 p.m.
Middle/High Schools ONLY dismiss at 1:00 p.m.

📅 Elementary Schools:
Thursday, October 29, 1:30–5:30 p.m.
Elementary Schools ONLY dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

Schools will share scheduling details soon. If the conference date or time does not work for your family, your school will work with you to arrange another time.

Happy National Teacher Assistant Day!

Teacher Assistants do more than anyone realizes. They arrive early. Prepare materials. Make copies. Organize classrooms. Help with breakfast and lunch. Monitor hallways, buses, playgrounds and dismissal. Tie shoes. Zip coats. Open milk cartons. Clean up spills. Find missing pencils. Dry tears. Calm frustrations. Redirect behaviors. Celebrate small victories that may actually be huge victories for a child.

They work one-on-one with students who need extra support. Reinforce lessons. Practice sight words. Work through math problems again. Read directions one more time. Help students stay focused. Modify and organize materials. Support students with disabilities. Assist with personal care when needed. Help children communicate, regulate emotions and navigate their day.

They notice the student who is unusually quiet. The child who didn't eat breakfast. The one who doesn't have a coat. The student who needs a few extra minutes. The one who just needs someone to sit beside them and say, “You've got this.”

They support teachers in a thousand ways that rarely appear in a job description. They step in when plans change, someone is absent, a student is struggling or a classroom simply needs another set of capable hands.

And tomorrow, they come back and do it all again.

Teacher Assistants don't simply assist teachers. They help children learn, feel safe, build confidence and know they belong.

Today we recognize all the work that is easy to overlook but impossible to replace.

Because some of the very best learning doesn’t happen sitting behind a desk or completing a worksheet. It happens when children are given the opportunity to experience it.

Because when students are engaged, creating and experiencing learning for themselves, education becomes something they remember.

This is public schools in action!

A place where children learn and laugh. Where they are challenged and celebrated. Where their cultures are honored, their differences are valued, and learning becomes something they can see, taste, experience, and remember.

Look at these faces. This is belonging. This is joy. This is childhood. And yes, this is learning.

At Peachland-Polkton Elementary, our students aren't simply preparing for the next test or the next grade. They are learning about one another, experiencing the world beyond a textbook, building relationships, and discovering that who they are belongs in their school.

Our Strategic Plan in action: Priority 1 means providing meaningful, engaging learning experiences for every student, while Priority 4 reminds us that strong schools are built through connection, families, culture, and community.

THE WHY: Because a great education should never require us to choose between academic growth and childhood. Our children deserve both. And in Anson County Schools, that is exactly what we are working to give them.
