Beginning Teachers Kick Off Their Journey with Anson County Schools

Anson County Schools recently welcomed its newest educators during the 2026 Beginning Teacher Retreat: How to THRIVE Your First 30 Days, a four-day orientation designed to prepare beginning teachers for a successful start to the school year. The retreat gave new teachers the opportunity to build relationships with mentors, principals, instructional coaches, district leaders, and fellow beginning teachers while gaining the tools and resources needed to confidently begin their careers in Anson County Schools.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Ratliff officially welcomed the district's newest educators, setting the tone for an exciting year ahead by sharing the district's mission, vision, and unwavering commitment to student learning. He emphasized the importance of building meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues while encouraging teachers to embrace their purpose as educators by leading with strong character, personal responsibility, and a commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of children. Throughout the week, participants took part in sessions on classroom structures, technology and district systems, NCEES, emergency protocols, exceptional children (EC) services, retirement benefits, parent communication, lesson planning, trauma-informed practices, and classroom setup. Beginning teachers also learned from an experienced teacher panel, visited the Anson County Schools Planetarium, and concluded the retreat by collaborating with instructional coaches and mentors before spending time preparing in their school buildings. Sessions were led by Caity Eason, Jessica Wallace, Dr. Valerie O'Kelly, Kelly Martindale, Dr. John Tharp, Dr. Josh McLaurin, district counselors, instructional coaches, mentors, and experienced classroom teachers, providing new educators with practical guidance and support as they prepare for the first day of school.

Anson County Schools is excited to welcome these talented educators to our schools and looks forward to the positive impact they will make in classrooms across the district. We wish each of them a successful first year and are proud to support them as they begin their journey of inspiring and empowering the next generation.

Attention: SPCC Career and College Promise Students and Parents!

The SPCC fall semester begins on August 14 for many CCP students and to prepare you for the upcoming academic year, several orientation sessions will be offered to provide you with information to start the semester on the right foot.

A virtual orientation in Microsoft Teams will be on Monday, August 10, at 6 p.m. To attend this session, please click on the following link:

An in-person orientation will be offered during the evening open house on Thursday, August 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the AHS Media Center.

Public schools are about so much more than classrooms, they're communities!

We love seeing families, staff, PTO members, volunteers, and neighbors come together to prepare our schools for a new year. Today we're highlighting the incredible Beautification Day at Peachland-Polkton Elementary, but this heart for serving students is something you'll find throughout Anson County Schools.
