This past Sunday January 11, we had a search for a lost kayaker on the Conasuaga river in the Cohutta Wilderness. Murray County Rescue and Fire departments went 1 mile in on very steep terrain and located this missing kayaker and got him back to safety.

Below is a heartfelt message from the individual.

As we will continue to discuss the mistakes made this past weekend, I’d like to also take the time to mention what went right. The men to the left and right of me are the ones that got me up the last 600+ feet of mountainside and back to safety. While I am certain my family of kayakers that rushed in without question to find me would have found me, these guys made it to me a little quicker.

Without selfless men like these many of which volunteer their time risking their lives to save ours, there would be a few less of us able to make it home to our families. They do not judge us for our mistakes that cause them to roll out of their warm beds and run out into the frigid night air, no matter what it is. They do not care what got us there, only that they get us out.

They get little credit for what they do and I want to make sure that I take the time to say thank you. So thank you gentlemen. Not just for what you do for me but for what you do for all those that lose their way. I hope we all make the effort to be just a little more like you all- selfless, kind, brave. I will never forget what you did for me.
