Today is a day we wish we never had to face.
It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of one of our own, AEMT Ryan Angel.
Ryan's journey with Bledsoe County EMS began in 2002 as a driver. Over the years, he continued his education and became an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. But Ryan was so much more than a title, a uniform, or a name on a schedule.
For 20 years, Ryan was part of our EMS family. He was a familiar face, a coworker, a friend, and someone who shared in the long shifts, difficult calls, laughter, and memories that come with this profession. In emergency services, the people we work beside become more than coworkers. They become family. And today, our family is hurting.
Emergency services wasn't simply something Ryan did. It was something he loved. It was his passion. Whether serving with Bledsoe County EMS or as a member of the Pikeville Volunteer Fire Department, Ryan dedicated so much of his life to being there for others when they needed someone the most.
But beyond the ambulance, the fire department, and the uniform, Ryan had an even more important role — being a husband and a father to his two children. As deeply as we feel this loss, we know it cannot compare to the heartbreak his family is experiencing. We ask that everyone keep his wife, children, and entire family in their thoughts and prayers in the difficult days ahead.
There is something about the bond between those in emergency services that is hard to explain unless you've lived it. We spend holidays together, miss family gatherings together, face some of life's hardest moments together, and somehow find reasons to laugh in between. We become a second family to one another. And when we lose one of our own, that loss is felt deeply.
Twenty years of service. Twenty years of memories. Twenty years of being part of something bigger than ourselves. Ryan's place in our EMS family will never be forgotten.
Ryan, thank you for the years you gave, the sacrifices you made, and the lives you touched. We wish we had more time, more shifts, more conversations, and more memories to make.
You spent your life answering the call for others. Now it's our turn to honor you.
Rest easy, Ryan. Your shift is over, your work here is done, and we'll take it from here.
