This bird was in the Amazon just a couple of weeks ago! He gets his bright scarlet color from berries he ate in the rainforest. Pretty amazing!

This is a Scarlet Tanager. I have a bill to designate it PA’s state migratory bird. Because Pennsylvania has so much old growth forest, we have more Scarlett Tanagers here than anywhere else in the United States. Designating this bird is an opportunity to call out the importance of protecting our beautiful Pennsylvania forest and highlight why we should work together to conserve more. Thank you to the Audubon Mid-Atlantic for their incredible work in conservation and for leading this morning’s successful birding expedition at Beechwood Farms. It was really fun!

Special shout out to PA’s hunters. Hunting culture has played a key role in conservation and I remain committed to amplifying that message. Hunters are some of our best conservation champions.

Today is a profoundly solemn day, a day we mourn the men and women of the US Armed Forces who died while fighting to uphold the values of our great Country. I was glad to spend the morning with Blawnox friends marching in their great parade and I was truly honored to be asked to speak on such a somber and significant day. I hope everyone had a meaningful Memorial Day today. 🇺🇸

New air tanks so they can breath when they are crawling through dark rooms and scorching fire to rescue us. Makes me get a tear in my eye. So lucky to be able to help them. 💗

We’re in our Dräger era now…😎

Last evening we took delivery of our brand new Dräger SCBA’s. After an introductory training by our wonderful sales reps at Howell Rescue Systems, our members were made familiar with the ins and outs of these new packs, and after everyone was confident, these were placed into service, and will provide our members with safe and reliable breathing air for at least the next 15 years.

This was a major investment in our department and its members, and a big change too. We did our due diligence, shopping around, and demoed several brands and models, just like if you were buying a car. This is something that will be with us for many years to come, and we all wanted to make sure we’re all in agreement.

This purchase also wouldn’t have been possible without the grant money we received with the help of our State Representative Mandy Steele. She is a champion for all first responders, and we are glad to have her in our corner, fighting for us all in Harrisburg. This picture is quite literally your tax dollars at work.

Thank you to her, thank you to Howell, and thanks to all of our followers for your continued support of your local West Tarentum firefighters.

It's such a pain to have to run all the way downtown for an errand! That’s why we asked our fantastic Allegheny County Treasurer's Office team to have a satellite location at my office. Her team is really great and we have plenty of easy parking! 😀

Things they can help with-
- Pay your county property taxes
- Homestead/farmstead exclusion
- Senior citizen, tax relief program
- Hunting, fishing and dog licenses

They will be here-
June 22nd, July 20th, August 3rd and September 14th

We have so much water around here, please be safe when you’re out enjoying it!

Pennsylvania had 10 recreational boating fatalities in 2025. That is 10 too many. The best way to survive a boating incident is to wear a properly fitting life jacket.

When you're boating, remember to:

- Wear your life jacket. It floats, even if you don't. Wear it buckled and/or zipped.
-Never operate your boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
-Stay away from manmade and natural hazards
-Stop that prop. Turn off your engine before picking up a skier or swimmer
-Never boat alone.
-Carry a whistle that is audible for 1/2-mile.
-File a float plan. It lets people know where you're headed, what your boat looks like and when you should be back.

And it's worth repeating. Wear a properly fitting life jacket.
