Good morning- we are still without power today at my house.
At this point, we are experiencing multi day outages multiple times a year at my home. It’s getting to be a serious issue.
Is anyone else still without power? If you live in the Allegheny Valley and are still without, will you please email me? I’d like to try to understand how many people are still in the dark.

It’s bad out there tonight! Please be careful. Just had to venture out to pick up one of my kids. I took 40 minutes to travel a distance that normally takes about 10 minutes. We saw high voltage lines down blocking a road, flooded roads, trees on wires, telephone poles snapped in half and caught in lines, streams close to breaching their banks, and this fire from downed lines. Lots of danger. Stay home if you can. So sorry to everyone without power, we are without again at my home, too. 😭
Please email or Facebook message if you need to reach me and I’ll try to help as best I can. I can’t control the electric providers but I do have a contact and will gladly elevate real emergencies.
[email protected] but I don’t have WiFi so might be a little slow to respond!

Heavy rain in the area this morning. I hope everyone is ok!

Our houses and infrastructure are just not designed to handle such heavy rain, which has become the new normal.

Building codes are based on historic weather data. But the reality is that CLIMATE CHANGE HAS CAUSED SIGNIFICANT SHIFTS IN WEATHER PATTERNS.

We need to look out our windows and wake up, acknowledge that climate change is real, and pivot to using CURRENT WEATHER DATA when structuring building codes to protect ourselves and our communities against damage from intense rainfall.

I represent a bunch of people who are experiencing flooding in their houses today because a developer came in a clear cut established forest behind them. Now all that water is pouring into their houses. If building codes used current weather data, the developer wouldn’t have been permitted to clear cut that site. Forest is an incredibly useful tool in managing water.

I’ll keep pushing for this in Harrisburg, but please ask your municipality to use current weather data to update their codes.

Sometimes people ask me why I post so much about firefighters and hunters.

Must seem strange for a suburban Democrat woman. But it shouldn’t be. Democrats have consistently stood with firefighters and hunters. Check the voting record. Democrats have been voting for hunters and firefighters for decades, and we still are today. It matters to me that people know this about my party. There is so much more common ground in America than some want us to believe.

So why do I talk about firefighters and hunters so much? Because I find inspiration in them.

Firefighters- real bravery, running into darkness and danger to save our children, sacrificing for the greater good, role models inspiring us to do more. HEROES IN A TIME WHEN WE DON’T HAVE MANY.

Hunters- stewardship of our precious forests, defenders of wild places, mentors of youth, healthy meat for our families and for those in need. CONSERVATIONISTS IN A TIME WHEN WE DON’T HAVE MANY.

There are numerous causes I advocate for in the Capital. But keeping our firefighters and hunters front of mind grounds me in what matters- fighting for good people.

And by the way- the firefighters and hunters that I know are Democrats and Republicans and Independents. And they’re all good people.

Don’t let anyone BS you. We have way more in common than we don’t.

I’m going to keep being inspired by firefighters and hunters. And I’m going to keep searching for the shared humanity in all of us. It’s not hard to see- if you just look for common ground.

It’s like night and day - say teachers in schools where they’ve implemented a ban on smart phones. We’ve got to get my bill passed this fall and make this return to normalcy happen for all of our PA children!

https://www.wesanews.org/education/2026-08-31/pa-ban-cellphones-schools-educators-seeing-results?fbclid=IwdGRjcAUD1rpwZG9mAWZkaWQWUNlcbSi7K06F4bNKpoxJ2IDzmtv-wWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkCjY2Mjg1NjgzNzkAAR7gsnRztcihxtfsx_vdY1AD2P_Cy9Kyh6936_pT36oScXnISDneZ9NPGgDASg_aem_nCiAZTgBka0Q9SvoIy46jA

The “bell-to-bell” bans face skepticism from students and parents. After going phone-free, early adopters say the difference is striking.

My kind of people - volunteer fire fighters ❤️

A great privilege to stop by Middle Road Volunteer Fire this evening to share some good news- I was able to secure the funding for a much needed new truck!

While this pickup we are standing in front of is a classic, it is past its prime. They’ve kept it going since 1997! A testament to how volunteer fire fighters do so much with so little. Keep their equipment going for years and years.

This fire company, like so many others, is in desperate need of funding for equipment so that they can be ready when we call.

I’ll keep fighting to drive state money back home to help them.

But my gosh- we need to do more for our firefighters.

Glad to be able to do something, at least.

So much more to do.

I wouldn’t miss this beautiful celebration of the amazing Cindy Homburg over the weekend. I have great admiration for people who step up for their hometowns. Cindy’s remarkable dedication to her community over many years is amazing! So great to see so many people show up to honor her! Lots of good people here in the Allegheny Valley.
