McCormick Jr. High’s Layla Lowe is LCSD1 student of the week for Sept. 28th:

McCormick Junior High eighth grader and multi-instrumentalist Layla Lowe is Laramie County School District 1’s student of the week for Sept. 8. Her consistent good grades and positive disposition earned her the spot.

According to the district, Lowe is known around McCormick for her great attitude, responsibility, kindness and commitment to learning. She takes her grades seriously and is enrolled in honors classes, where she is always pushing herself to do better.

She said her goals are to maintain her grades, hone her reading and writing skills and keep building relationships with friends. She’s also serious about her extracurriculars. She plays the clarinet and violin; participates in yarn club and art club; and, outside of school, crochets, draws, makes jewelry and sews.

“Her strong character, commitment to learning and ability to lead by example make her a wonderful representative of our school community,” McCormick science teacher Heather Boulger said.

Lowe told LCSD1 that her advice for fellow students is to never give up; someone is always rooting for you. She chose Quinton Bledsoe as her favorite teacher because he makes learning easy and accessible with hands-on activities and a bookshelf full of books kids can borrow.

McCormick Junior High Cross Country had an outstanding day at the Conference North Park meet, with all four teams taking home first place! Boys Varsity, Boys JV, Girls Varsity, and Girls JV each earned the team title, keeping all four trophies at McCormick. Theo Racines led the Boys varsity with an individual first-place finish in 14:32, while Adelaide Gough captured the Girls Varsity title in 16:25. Willett Bird won the JV race and out competed a number of varsity kids, including one on our varsity roster, while Eileen Gutierrez-Castro won the JV race.
The Warriors also had four additional runners finish in the top 10 in Girls Varsity and four additional runners place in the top 10 in Boys Varsity.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, improvement, and support our runners continue to show for one another. Every athlete is growing as the season progresses, and the Warriors are looking forward to the championship Meet next Saturday in Laramie! - Coach Cordell
