This month's Unsung Hero is Ms. Tiffany Tillman – Principal of Melody S.T.E.M. Elementary School in West Garfield Park.
A third-generation Chicago Public Schools employee with 33 years of service, Principal Tillman is going into her 13th year as Principal. Her impact goes far beyond the classroom.
From creating the "Melody Mastery Bowl" – an interactive academic competition that brings excitement to learning – to navigating the challenges of educating students during COVID, she has consistently gone above and beyond to maximize her students' potential.
Her philosophy is simple: education is about more than just tests. It's about applying lessons to everyday life. Her commitment is evident in the students she has inspired—many of whom have returned as teachers, administrators, and parents enrolling their own children at Melody S.T.E.M.
Beyond her school, Principal Tillman serves as Secretary of the Garfield Park Rite to Wellness Collective Board of Directors and actively partners with Malcolm X West Campus, Legler Library, Chicago Police Department, and BUILD Inc. – all organizations dedicated to uplifting the West Side community.
We are grateful to have leaders like Principal Tiffany Tillman making a lasting difference in the 28th Ward.
