Meet trainee Kate Klein, MA, MPH, a third-year Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) student in Public Health Leadership at the UIC School of Public Health (SPH).

Her research focuses on implementation science to improve access to prevention in low-resource settings.

Her dissertation examines community-level determinants of the implementation of a mobile, HPV-based cervical cancer screening program in Nigeria, with the goal of understanding how local context shapes the acceptability and appropriateness of innovative screening strategies. She is mentored by University of Illinois Cancer Center member and SPH faculty Caryn Peterson, PhD, MS.

Spearheaded by University of Illinois Cancer Center member Yu Gao, PhD, researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) have received $2.15 million from National Institutes of Health (NIH)'s National Institute of General Medical Sciences to develop methods for cutting-edge single-cell proteomics — the study of all proteins produced by an organism.

Gao is a member of the Cancer Center's Translational Oncology Research Program. The Cancer Center is part of UIC.

The University of Illinois Cancer Center and Cancer Center member Abiola Ibraheem, MD, who is the North American Vice President for the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), again helped to put on another Best of ASCO Africa Conference, this time in Nigeria.

Best of ASCO conferences feature abstracts and slides from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting held in late spring in Chicago. During this year's annual ASCO meeting, Ibraheem, a physician-scientist, helped lead discussions on global cancer collaboration at an AORTIC event.
