On September 24, 1789, President George Washington signed the Judiciary Act of 1789, establishing the federal judiciary and creating the foundation for the federal court system.

While federal courts handle cases involving federal law and other matters under federal jurisdiction, state courts handle matters arising under state law.

This past Saturday, Judge Diann K. Marsalek joined Judges Ginger Odom, Stephanie Kelly, William Kelley, Tracie Porter, Jarrett Knox, Cecilia Abundis, Jon Stromsta, Joseph Leberman and Radiance Ward at the 15th Driver’s License Reinstatement Expo at Malcolm X College.

The annual event, organized in partnership with the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, the Cook County Public Defender's Office and the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, served 500 people, connecting residents with legal guidance, court services and other resources to help eligible individuals navigate the process of reinstating their driver’s licenses.

Thank you to the volunteers, staff and community partners who helped make this important day of service possible. ⚖️

On September 11, we mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and honor the first responders, members of the military and countless others who demonstrated extraordinary courage and service in the aftermath.

We remember the victims, their families and all those whose lives were forever changed.

25 years later, we remember.

A career worth celebrating. A legacy worth remembering.

As Judge Stanley J. Sacks retires after 38 years on the bench and more than 50 years in public service, friends, colleagues and members of the judiciary gathered to honor his remarkable career.

In this video, Chief Judge Charles S. Beach, Brian, a Purple Heart recipient, Justice LeRoy Martin Jr., and Judge Angela Petrone share their reflections and pay tribute to Judge Sacks and his decades of service to the Court and the community.
