Contactors laying new water line at the Green Street/Slippery Rock Street
intersection were working in close proximity to the main transmission line this morning when an unrestrained joint failed. This resulted in a large loss of water and pulled all the water from higher elevations to the leak area leaving some portions of town with low water pressure. This was an emergency situation requiring Chicora Borough to close valves in a rapid manner without notification. The leak area has been isolated and repairs are underway. Areas currently without water service include portions of Green Street, Kittanning Street, East Slippery Rock Street, North Main Street and Spring Street. Residents in other areas may experience lower than normal water pressure until repairs are completed. We expect repairs to be completed and service restored to all areas by mid-afternoon.
