🎉 GOOD NEWS — THE SHINNSTON RAIL TRAIL IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! 🎉

We are happy to announce that the Shinnston portion of the Rail Trail is officially OPEN and ready for use! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🌳

Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation while this section was closed and improvements were being completed. We truly appreciate everyone respecting the closure and allowing crews the time and space needed to complete the work safely.

🌱 One important reminder: Please stay off the newly seeded vegetation along the trail. In order to properly reseed and restore these areas, the vegetation needs time to grow and the roots need time to take hold. Staying off these areas will help ensure the new growth has the best chance to become established.

Now it’s time to get back out there and walk, run, bike, and enjoy the trail! ❤️

⚠️ PLEASE READ – SHINNSTON RAIL TRAIL UPDATE ⚠️

We know many of you have noticed that paving has been completed on the closed section of the Shinnston Rail Trail, and while it may look like the project is finished, it is NOT.

🚧 The closed section of the trail remains CLOSED. Construction is still ongoing, and this area is still an active construction zone. For your safety, we ask that everyone please stay off the closed section until all work has been completed.

Once the project is fully complete and the trail is officially reopened, we will make an official public announcement so residents know it is safe to use.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as crews finish the remaining work. Our top priority is ensuring the project is completed safely—and that everyone stays safe in the process.

We’re at the Shinnston Legion today for the 2026 Assessment & Tax Satellite Locations from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Our next stop will be at Meadowbrook Mall (Center Court) on Tuesday, July 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

‼️ ALL VOUCHERS HAVE BEEN CLAIMED ‼️

🎉 GREAT NEWS, HARRISON COUNTY! — READ IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE CALLING🎉

Our West Virginia Spay Neuter Program (WVSNP) Grant through the West Virginia Department of Agriculture is in full swing!

So far this year, we’ve already paid for 70 dog and cat spay/neuter surgeries, and we still have funding available for 50 more surgeries!

📞 To claim a voucher, call Harrison County Animal Control at 304-592-1876.

⚠️ Please note: Our voicemail is currently not working, so if you can’t reach us, you’ll need to call during normal business hours or text us at 304-627-5349.

If you are approved for a voucher, you must be able to come to the shelter within 1–2 business days to complete the required paperwork so we can schedule your pet’s surgery. All WVSNP vouchers are redeemed through Audubon Animal Clinic in Bridgeport, our participating veterinary clinic.

🐾 Limit of 2 vouchers per household
🐾 Must be a Harrison County resident

While all pets benefit from being spayed or neutered, we strongly encourage spaying female pets whenever possible. Female surgeries are typically the most expensive, and preventing unwanted litters is one of the most effective ways to reduce pet overpopulation in our community.

To qualify, you must currently receive one of the following and bring proof along with your ID:

✔️ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
✔️ Medicaid
✔️ Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
✔️ West Virginia Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)
✔️ Social Security Disability
✔️ Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
✔️ Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC)
✔️ Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
✔️ Low Income Veterans Assistance under 38 U.S.C. § 2044
