Re:Source Cleveland

Re:Source Cleveland Re:Source Cleveland serves international newcomers as they build lives in Greater Cleveland. Each year 1,300 to 1,900 refugees settle in Ohio.

Since 2007, Cuyahoga County has welcomed over 850 refugees from countries including Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, Ukraine, Russia and Iraq. Refugees legally enter the U.S. seeking freedom, peace and opportunity for themselves and their families. After resettlement, they start new lives with limited resources transitioning from their past and the lives they once knew. Through targeted research and extens

ive involvement within Northeast Ohio’s resettled refugee community, The Refugee Response recognizes newcomers both need and seek assistance with English language, basic cultural orientation and employment training in order to become self-sufficient, contributing members of their new communities.

The newest students in Re:Source's Post-Secondary Bridges program are off to a great start on their college application journeys before their senior years of high school have even begun! This summer we offered a college prep camp for the first time, after identifying a need to support students more deeply as they enter this phase of education.

Led by PSB staff and volunteers, rising high school seniors who plan to attend college were able to participate in activities all about exploring college majors, navigating financial aid resources, and the abundant higher education opportunities in Northeast Ohio. Each cohort of participating students were highly engaged and excited to be joining the third graduating class in our program that will accompany them along their post-secondary pathways for the next three years.

Thank you to Three Arches Foundation for the ongoing partnership in making our work possible! We're honored to have the story of Re:Source's Healthy Pathways shared as a featured grantee on the Foundation's website this month--read the whole story here: https://www.threearchesfoundation.org/grantee-story-resource-cleveland

"Launched in 2022 with grant funding from Three Arches Foundation, Healthy Pathways grew out of the Corner65 program into a coordinated continuum of care, helping close gaps in access to trauma-informed mental health and preventative physical health care. Youth and their families are connected to primary and behavioral health care, dental, vision, and specialty care through clinical referrals, wraparound coordination, and educational programs. The approach is proactive, building healthy habits and a foundation for long-term well-being before more serious intervention becomes necessary."

Gratitude ahead:
Thanks to an incredible gift from , 23 of our Corner65 program youth spent an unforgettable week at Camp Asbury! The congregation's generosity provided sleeping bags, duffel bags, towels, water bottles, sunscreen, bug spray, swimsuits, and every other essential needed to ensure each child could fully participate.

An additional thank you to Brecksville UMC's Sew4Good sewists, who lovingly sewed and embroidered a personalized pillowcase for every camper. These thoughtful gifts were a huge hit and quickly became treasured keepsakes, reminding our youth that they are deeply valued.

For many American families, summer camp is a tradition passed down through generations. For many of our newcomer youth, this was their very first camp experience. They spent the week building friendships, trying new adventures, growing in confidence, and simply getting to be kids. The greatest measure of the week's success came at pickup, when many campers were in tears because they didn't want the week to end. Others were already talking about returning one day as counselors.

This gift gave 23 young people more than a week at camp--it gave them memories, confidence, belonging, and an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime. Thank you, , for making it possible!

At a nonprofit like ours, no one has a job that looks the same every day. And this time of year, staff step up to take on all sorts of extra roles when the need arises--from van driver to costume designer, field trip chaperone, goal tender, IT help, janitor, stock room assistant, cheerleader, repair technician, grill master and so much more. A huge thank you shoutout to all of our team members who make the work we do possible, showing up with heart, creativity, compassion, and joy.
