We would like to extend our appreciation to the Lapeer County Search and Rescue team members—Kimmy, Jimmy, Todd, and Lisa—as well as their K-9 partners, Glory and Daisy, for joining us in a valuable training session. This collaboration helped strengthen our ability to work together effectively in the event of a missing person incident within our community.

This past Sunday afternoon, we performed a safety stand-by for an 11-acre prescribed burn. This was a field of five-foot-high switchgrass with a very light wind. The property owners had tilled up approximately 12 feet of ground around the perimeter of the field. The fire was done using a back burn process, where a fire is started against the wind to slow the rate of fire spread. From the time the fire was started until it was completely burned was about 13 minutes. It is very important that our citizens understand how fast a fire can travel. As you can see from these pictures, the fire can grow very quickly and burn extremely hot. Caution must be used anytime you are burning yard waste. Remember, you can now access our burn permit program by visiting the Burlington Township website.

Today was another good day of training and working as a team. All members worked well together and welcomed two other firefighters from area departments. Thank you, Sergeant Jeremy Goss, for leading today's training and working on his Instructor 1 mentoring hours. Even though today was Jeremy's birthday, he was the last member to leave the firehouse, once again leading by example. Thanks to every member for your time and dedication to the citizens of Burlington Township.
