🐾❤️ This week we celebrated 7 adoptions at MCAC, including 2 pairs of kittens who got to go home together! There’s something extra special about watching best friends start their next chapter side by side. 🐱🐱

A huge thank you to all of our adopters! 🥰 The gift you gave these animals is truly priceless. You didn’t just adopt a pet, you gave a homeless animal a family! 🏡💕

With school almost out for the summer, now is the perfect time to consider adding a furry family member to your adventures. Whether you’re looking for a walking buddy, a couch cuddler, a playful kitten, or a best friend for the whole family, we’d love to help you find your perfect match!

☀️🐾 Let us help you add a little extra fun, love, and wagging tails to your summer. Have you checked out our longest term resident, Axel?! 🩷🩷

It’s Feel Good Friday! 🐱🩷

This week, we had the opportunity to witness firsthand what teamwork between first responders is all about. ❤️🐾🚒

The Macomb Township Fire Department and Macomb County Animal Control worked together on a lifesaving mission to rescue a frightened kitten that found itself in quite the predicament.

Firefighters initially responded to a call for a kitten trapped inside a vehicle engine bay. Once the tiny kitten was finally freed, fear took over and it darted for the closest place it could find to hide and feel safe—unfortunately, straight into a downspout where it became stuck once again.

What happened next truly showcased the compassion and dedication of everyone involved. A Macomb Township Fire Captain quickly transported the kitten to Macomb County Animal Control, where our teams worked side-by-side with patience, care, and determination to safely free this scared little soul.

Thankfully, despite being terrified and confused after its ordeal, the kitten was unharmed and is now safe.

We are incredibly grateful for the quick actions, kindness, and teamwork shown throughout this rescue. It is always an honor working alongside our fellow first responders who continually go above and beyond, not only for people, but for the animals that depend on us too. 🐱❤️

Sometimes the smallest rescues leave the biggest impact. Way to go team! ❤️

📢Supplies Needed for MCAC Pets!

Right now, we’re especially in need of:
🐶 Dog treats (all kinds welcome!)
🐱 Cat toys (any type)

These donations help keep our pets comfortable and happy during their stay, and many items also go home with adopters to help pets settle into their new families ❤️

With a busy summer approaching, we’d love some help restocking!

Donations can be dropped off Monday–Friday from 10 AM–4 PM or sent to:

💔 Riley Update 💔

It is with heavy hearts that we share that the heartbreaking decision was made to humanely euthanize Riley 😭

His injuries were catastrophic. Riley suffered multiple pelvic fractures, a fractured leg, and additional trauma that could not be repaired in a way that would provide him with a humane quality of life. Sometimes these decisions are not about money, and no amount of money can undo the extent of the damage that was done. This decision was not made lightly, and it is one our staff is deeply grieving.

We kindly ask the public to please refrain from negative comments or assumptions. Our staff, the veterinary team, and everyone involved fought hard to give Riley comfort, dignity, and compassion in his final hours. The reality of animal welfare can be heartbreaking, and this was one of those moments.

Please take comfort in knowing that Riley was not alone. He was surrounded by people who cared about him, spoke softly to him, comforted him, and made sure he felt love in his final moments.

We still hope to identify his family so they can have answers and closure regarding what happened to him.

Run free, Riley. You mattered. 🕊️

💔 Please Help Us Find His Family 💔

Earlier this week, there were community posts on the Chesterfield Residents page about an elusive dog being spotted near 21 Mile and I-94. Many people tried to help. So many hoped for a safe ending. Sadly, the story did not end the way anyone wished it would.

The dog many came to know as “Riley” was struck by a vehicle and is now at an emergency veterinary hospital being kept as comfortable as possible. His injuries are severe — his pelvis is broken in multiple places and he suffers fractures in both legs. There are also concerns for internal bleeding. At this time, Riley is sadly not considered a candidate for surgery, and difficult humane decisions may need to be made very soon.

Right now, our biggest hope is finding his family before that time comes. No owner should have to wonder what happened to their dog, and "Riley" deserves the comfort of knowing his people are looking for him.

If you recognize Riley or know who his owners may be, please contact us immediately here, 📧[email protected], or contact the Chesterfield Police Department at (586) 949-2322.

Please keep Riley in your thoughts today. No matter where he came from or how this happened, he mattered! We are so thankful for such a caring community, a quick response from Chesterfield PD, and the compassionate staff at the emergency veterinary office.

If you would like to help support emergency cases like Riley’s — allowing animals to receive comfort care, emergency treatment, and giving us precious time to try to reunite them with their families — donations can be made here:

🐾⚾ Happy National Rescue Dog Day! ⚾🐾

We couldn’t let this day pass without featuring the MVP at Macomb County Animal Control… AXEL!

A couple of weeks ago, multiple local shelters were invited to bring some of their dogs out for a special photo shoot with Ruff Life Photography at the UWM Field, and honestly…it was clear Axel was born for the big leagues! ⚾️ From soaking up the sunshine to showing off his all-star smile, this boy looked completely at home under the stadium lights. What a fun day for these pups to step out of the kennels, stretch their legs, sniff around the outfield, and enjoy a much-needed break from shelter life. Thank you so much to Ruff Life Photography for giving these rescue dogs their moment to shine! 🐾

Axel has now been at the shelter for almost 90 days… and that’s a LOT of innings for a dog to spend waiting on the sidelines for his forever team. 💔

One of Axel’s favorite things is being outside. Whether he’s going for a walk, exploring new smells, or running around the yard, this boy is always up for an adventure. He’s also very treat-motivated, which makes him a great candidate for continued training and bonding with his future family.

Axel enjoys playing with other dogs and would likely do well with a canine companion who can match his playful energy.

While Axel continues to do great with staff and volunteers, shelter life is starting to get a little tough for him. He’s ready to leave the dugout behind and finally have a home of his own where he can stretch his legs, relax, and just be part of a family. ❤️

⚾ No cats for this all-star
⚾ Axel’s adoption fee is FULLY SPONSORED!!

Now all this MVP needs is someone willing to step up to the plate and give him the forever home he deserves. 🐶💙

Please share and let's get this legend into his forever home!

Meet Axel M-F 10-4. 21417 Dunham Rd Clinton Township, MI 48036

Our hearts absolutely exploded when Sasha walked into Animal Control 🥹💕 I mean… look at this face!!!

This adorable 6-month-old German Shepherd mix has the brightest eyes, the sweetest smile, and a personality that makes everyone instantly fall in love with her. Sasha is happy, affectionate, and always ready to show off her “sit” for a treat. She’s very food-motivated, eager to learn, and loves making new dog friends, too! She's the total package!

She truly is one of those dogs that makes people stop and say, “Oh my gosh, she is SOOOOO cute.”

Sasha is up-to-date on vaccines and preventative care and will be available as a foster-to-adopt until after her spay appointment. That means you can bring her home, fall completely in love (trust us, you will 😍), and then officially make her yours forever once her spay is complete.

Her adoption fee is $125 and that includes her spay, vaccines, microchip, and a starter kit full of puppy essentials to help her settle into her new home with ease ❤️🐾

Now all this sweet girl needs is a forever family to love her as much as we do ❤️🐾

Come get your girl!

Meet Shirley! This babe is a one-year-old 64 lb Doodle diva with fabulous curls, endless energy, and a personality bigger than her fluffy hair 💅🐾

Fresh off her spa day, Shirley is looking absolutely STUNNING and ready to trade kennel life for patio dates, shopping strolls, and being spoiled by a family of her very own. Honestly, she looks like she should be walking through Partridge Creek with a pink leash, an iced coffee nearby, and strangers stopping every five seconds to tell her how pretty she is ✨

But Shirley isn’t just a pretty face, oh no, this girl is FUN!! She’s playful, social, goofy, affectionate, and always ready for her next adventure. She absolutely LOVES other dogs and would thrive with a playful canine bestie who can keep up with her zoomies and wrestling matches. She’s active, outgoing, and wants to be part of everything her people are doing.

Her gorgeous curly coat will require regular grooming to keep her looking this fabulous, and she’d love a family committed to continuing her training and helping her grow into the polished princess she’s meant to be 👑

Cats? Not Shirley’s vibe 🐱🚫

If you’ve been looking for a dog who brings beauty, personality, comedy, and nonstop love all wrapped into one fluffy package… Shirley is your girl 💖

Come meet her today 10-4!
21417 Dunham Rd Clinton Twp 48036

Shirley's adoption fee is $300.00, which includes all vaccines, microchip, her spay, and a bag full of pet essentials to help her settle in her new palace! 👑
