It's almost time for our 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat, and it looks like Mother Nature is FINALLY going to cooperate! ☀️ (Let's be honest, the universe owes us some sunshine after Woofstock, right?! 😂🌧️)

Look for our registration tent in the parking lot when you arrive! Pick up your FREE Trunk or Treat bag (while supplies last) and enter your pup into our costume contest. You'll receive a numbered sticker to wear so our judges can identify your pup!

She's got a big heart, a whole lot of love, and absolutely no interest in following you to the bathroom! 🙂

Meet our independent queen, Lola! At 7 years young, this girl knows a thing or two about life, love, and the importance of personal space.

Don't get us wrong, she's a total wiggle butt and an absolute love bug! She's happy to shower you with kisses, wiggle her way into your heart, and soak up some affection. She's just not the type who needs to be attached to your hip 24/7. She loves her people, but she's also perfectly content doing her own thing. Honestly, she's got this whole healthy relationship thing figured out!

She's also a big fan of her stuffies, knows how to sit, walks nicely on a leash, and is very treat-motivated. She's got the brains, the beauty, AND the personality!

Now here's the part that breaks our hearts.

We've known this sweet girl since she was just a baby. She's been surrendered by her owners not once, but twice, through absolutely no fault of her own. And somehow, after everything she's been through, she's still got that wiggly little butt and so much love to give.

She's been back with us since August 25, and shelter life is starting to take its toll. What's even harder to believe? She has ZERO adoption applications. Not one.

At 7 years young, she deserves so much more than another day wondering when it's going to be her turn.

She enjoys the company of lower-energy dogs but would be perfectly happy being your one and only. She could also do well with cats given slow, proper introductions.

She's spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and her adoption fee is fully sponsored!

That's right! This sweet girl is ready to head home with an approved adopter, and her adoption fee has already been taken care of.

She's not asking to be the center of your universe every second of the day. She just wants to be part of it.

A little independence, a whole lot of love, and a wiggle butt that will make you smile.

She's been someone's dog twice. It's time she finally gets to be someone's forever.

Hey Everyone! I'm Odin! 🐾

About six months ago, I thought I found my forever home. I was adopted, and everyone was so happy for me! But sometimes things don't work out the way we hope, and I found myself back at the shelter. 💔

You see, I'm a 1-year-old German Shepherd with a big heart, a busy brain, and a LOT of personality! I'm a smart guy who loves to stay busy, and I'm still learning a few things along the way.

Coming back to MCAC was a little overwhelming for me. All the noise and activity made it hard for me to relax, but my friends here had a plan! ❤️

They found me a wonderful foster home and trainer who's working with me one-on-one! I'm getting lots of individual attention, learning new things, and building my confidence while I wait for my next adventure.

And let me tell you, it feels pretty good to have someone believe in me!

Now, enough about all that. Let me tell you why I'm such a catch!

First of all, I LOVE fetch! Seriously, it's my favorite thing in the world. Throw me a ball, and I'll happily bring it right back, drop it at your feet, and wait for you to throw it again!

I know my name, can sit, and even shake!

I'm smart, athletic, eager to learn, and pretty handsome. I mean, have you SEEN my ears?!

Oh, and I'm neutered, vaccinated, up-to-date on preventative care, heartworm negative, and microchipped!

So, what kind of family am I hoping to find?

I'm looking for a younger, active person or couple who loves adventures, enjoys spending time outdoors, and has experience with German Shepherds or other working breeds.

Someone who understands that guys like me are happiest when we have a routine, plenty of exercise, fun things to keep our brains busy, and opportunities to keep learning!

I'm not the best match for a first-time dog owner, but for someone familiar with my breed, I have so much to offer! My friends will be happy to talk more about my personality, training, and what will help me be successful when we meet.

I don't need a perfect family. I just need the right one.

I'm so grateful for my foster trainer and everything they're doing for me, but I'm ready to find a home of my very own. ❤️
A place where I can settle in, have a routine, keep learning, and finally become someone's forever best friend.

🐾 A few questions we've been getting about Odin!

🐱 Cats? Odin would do best in a cat-free home.

🐶 Other dogs? Odin enjoys the company of other dogs, but he's a big puppy at heart! He would do best with a dog similar in size who is tolerant, has that same fun-loving, playful puppy energy, and can match his enthusiasm!

👨‍👩‍👧 Kids? Because of his size, enthusiasm, and playful nature, we feel he'd be happiest in a home with mature teenagers or adults.

🐾 FOUR ADOPTIONS & A WHOLE LOT OF FUN COMING UP! 🎃❤️

It was a little quieter on the adoption front this week, but that’s okay! Sometimes it’s not about the number of adoptions, it’s about finding the PERFECT match. And this week, 4 of our furry friends found their people! 🏡🐶🐱

We couldn’t be happier for these lucky pets and their new families! Thank you for choosing adoption and giving them the happy endings they deserve. ❤️

🎃🐾 Boo, Brews & Belly Rubs! 🍻👻

Now THIS is our kind of Halloween party! 🐶🎃

Macomb County Animal Control is excited to be joining our friends at Tombstone Brewery for their Trunk or Treat! And the best part? Your four-legged friends are invited, too! 🐾❤️

We’ll be setting up a table with plenty of treats and fun swag for the pups, plus candy for the little ghosts and goblins! We may even bring a four legged friend or two from MCAC! 🍬

If you haven’t checked out Tombstone Brewery, they have a great outdoor b**r garden where your pup is welcome to hang out with you! We LOVE a place that includes our furry family members in the fun! 🐕

There will be trick-or-treating, decorated tables, and even a movie under the stars!

So dress up the kids, grab your pup, and come spend a fun fall evening with us!

🐈 IT'S GLOBAL COMMUNITY CAT & FERAL CAT DAY! 🐈‍⬛🐾

Let's talk about those neighborhood cats who have 17 different names, eat at 6 different houses, and somehow have the entire street working for them. 😂

Did you know Macomb County Animal Control has supported Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts since 2013? And so far in 2026, we've helped fund TNR services for 150 community cats! 🎉

So, what exactly is TNR? 🤔

🐾 TRAP: Community cats are safely and humanely trapped.

🐾 NEUTER: They're spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and given an ear tip.

🐾 RETURN: They're returned to their familiar outdoor territory, where they can continue living their lives WITHOUT making more kittens!

👂 WAIT… WHAT'S AN EAR TIP?

Ever notice a neighborhood cat missing the very tip of one ear? That's not necessarily a battle scar from fighting the local raccoon. 🦝😂

An ear tip is a small, straight cut across the tip of one ear that lets everyone know the cat has already been sterilized. It's basically their little badge of honor! 🏅

And here's something important: If you see a healthy, ear-tipped cat roaming your neighborhood, chances are they're right where they belong! They may already be part of a managed community cat colony.

❤️ WHY DOES TNR MATTER?

TNR helps prevent unwanted litters, slows community cat population growth, and improves the lives of outdoor cats. It's a humane approach that makes a BIG difference over time!

🐾 NOW HIRING: KENNEL ATTENDANT! 🐾

Do you love animals? Don’t mind getting dirty? Have a strong stomach, a big heart, and the ability to laugh when your day goes completely off the rails? Well, we might have the job for you! 😂

We’re looking for a special person to join our amazing team at Macomb County Animal Control!

Let’s be clear… this is NOT a job where you get paid to play with puppies and cuddle kittens all day. (Although there are definitely some perks! 🐶🐱)

Some days you’ll be covered in dog hair, mystery fluids, and things you’d rather not identify. You’ll clean up a kennel only to turn around and wonder if the dog waited for you to finish before making another mess. You’ll learn that a 10-pound dog can have the attitude of a 100-pound dog, and that not every animal appreciates your efforts to help them.

But you’ll also be the person who helps a scared dog learn to trust again. The one who comforts an animal having the worst day of its life. The one who celebrates every adoption, every little victory, and every happy ending.

This job is physically demanding, emotionally challenging, occasionally heartbreaking, and incredibly rewarding.

Our kennel attendants do SO much more than clean kennels. They provide daily care, administer medications, monitor health and behavior, assist with medical procedures, and make sure every animal that comes through our doors is treated with compassion and dignity.

And we aren’t just looking to fill a position. We’re looking for someone to fill some pretty amazing shoes. ❤️

Someone who works hard, has a great sense of humor, can roll with the chaos, and genuinely loves animals AND people. Someone who understands that animal welfare isn’t always sunshine and puppy kisses, but shows up every day ready to make a difference anyway.

* Full-time county position (four 10-hour shifts)
* Starting salary: $41,328.19–$53,454.55

🐾 So many forever homes, so few goodies left! 🐶🐱❤️

Hey friends! It's us, the dogs and cats of MCAC!

SO many of our friends have been heading off to their forever homes lately, and we couldn't be happier! But all those happy endings have created one little problem… our humans are having a hard time keeping our going-home bags stocked!

Did you know every pet adopted from MCAC gets a special bag filled with essentials to help them start their new life off on the right paw? Well, we could use a little help filling those bags back up!

🐶 Us dogs are requesting chewy treats, please! Not only do we get to take them home, but our amazing Stray Strollers and volunteers use them during walks, training, and enrichment activities. And trust us, we work HARD for those treats!

🐱 And us cats would LOVE some fun toys! We've got some serious playing, pouncing, and entertaining our new families to do!

If you're able to help us restock, we'd be SO grateful!
