💔 Riley Update 💔
It is with heavy hearts that we share that the heartbreaking decision was made to humanely euthanize Riley 😭
His injuries were catastrophic. Riley suffered multiple pelvic fractures, a fractured leg, and additional trauma that could not be repaired in a way that would provide him with a humane quality of life. Sometimes these decisions are not about money, and no amount of money can undo the extent of the damage that was done. This decision was not made lightly, and it is one our staff is deeply grieving.
We kindly ask the public to please refrain from negative comments or assumptions. Our staff, the veterinary team, and everyone involved fought hard to give Riley comfort, dignity, and compassion in his final hours. The reality of animal welfare can be heartbreaking, and this was one of those moments.
Please take comfort in knowing that Riley was not alone. He was surrounded by people who cared about him, spoke softly to him, comforted him, and made sure he felt love in his final moments.
We still hope to identify his family so they can have answers and closure regarding what happened to him.
Run free, Riley. You mattered. 🕊️
💔 Please Help Us Find His Family 💔
Earlier this week, there were community posts on the Chesterfield Residents page about an elusive dog being spotted near 21 Mile and I-94. Many people tried to help. So many hoped for a safe ending. Sadly, the story did not end the way anyone wished it would.
The dog many came to know as “Riley” was struck by a vehicle and is now at an emergency veterinary hospital being kept as comfortable as possible. His injuries are severe — his pelvis is broken in multiple places and he suffers fractures in both legs. There are also concerns for internal bleeding. At this time, Riley is sadly not considered a candidate for surgery, and difficult humane decisions may need to be made very soon.
Right now, our biggest hope is finding his family before that time comes. No owner should have to wonder what happened to their dog, and "Riley" deserves the comfort of knowing his people are looking for him.
If you recognize Riley or know who his owners may be, please contact us immediately here, 📧[email protected], or contact the Chesterfield Police Department at (586) 949-2322.
Please keep Riley in your thoughts today. No matter where he came from or how this happened, he mattered! We are so thankful for such a caring community, a quick response from Chesterfield PD, and the compassionate staff at the emergency veterinary office.
If you would like to help support emergency cases like Riley’s — allowing animals to receive comfort care, emergency treatment, and giving us precious time to try to reunite them with their families — donations can be made here:
