PSA - CONTINUED ROAD CLOSURES

It has been brought to the attention of the City of Clio that the current MDOT construction work in the area will see an uptick in activity.

We have been informed that Vienna Road between Haven and Linden will see more lane closures, largely between 7 PM and 7 AM for approximately two more weeks.

We ask that you plan accordingly for your daily commute, and travel in general, so as to avoid unnecessary frustration, and to reduce potential for accidents.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

OUR SECOND “YOUTH PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY” COMES TO A CLOSE.

CPD hosted its second Youth Public Safety Academy from June 15-June 18, 2026, and the response was better than we could have hoped for.

From 9am - noon each of the four days, sixteen students between the ages of six and sixteen, accompanied by adult family members, attended the program, the goal of which is to demonstrate the role of public safety in our culture.

Our own Danny Livingston coordinated the program, and with his guidance, participants were exposed to police, fire, EMS, and 911 operations through a series of presentations, demonstrations, and facility tours.

It is our goal to make this a yearly event, as we received positive feedback from participants and their families. However, we could not have offered this program in the first place, but for the timely assistance of Director Tim Jones and the staff of Genesee County Central Dispatch, Chief Jim Bronson and Assistant Chief Steve Rynbrandt of the Clio Area Fire Authority, and the staff of Patriot Ambulance, all of whom went out of their way to share their time and experience with students.

We are also grateful to the adult family members in attendance for helping their young to develop a better understanding of the world we live in.

PSA - CLIO PD RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF GREATER FLINT - CLIO AREA FUND

The Clio Police Department has gratefully accepted a $2,385 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint - Clio Area Fund.

This grant is for the purchase of three Suppressall FS2 fire suppression devices, one of which will be placed in each of the city’s police cruisers.

We recognize on the face of things, that firefighting is to be left to the experts in the field; our brave men and women in the firefighting service.

That said, it is almost always the case that police officers arrive on fire scenes ahead of other emergency personnel, simply because they are already out and about, patrolling the streets of our community.

These devices, which somewhat resemble kettlebells, contain an aerosol fire suppression chemical. When deployed into an active fire, they will greatly slow the progression of flames, if not outright extinguish them, allowing the fire service more time to arrive on scene, hook up to their water supply, and ensure the fire is properly extinguished once and for all.

CPD officers will receive training on the proper handling, and deployment of these devices, and it is anticipated they will be available for use in the very near future.

We offer our heartfelt thanks to Senior Program Officer Jennifer Farrington, and all the board members of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint - Clio Area Fund for helping us to provide additional lifesaving services to our community.

SIGNIFICANT EVENT - UNARMED ROBBERY

On 05-31-26 (Sunday), at approximately 7:28 AM, CPD Officers Leighton and Livingston, both still at the station during shift change, received a call from Genesee County Central Dispatch regarding an Accident / Unknown Trouble near the intersection of New St. / Pine St.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the two adult males involved, one of whom was attempting to flee from the scene. The officers discovered a property damage accident had indeed occurred, and the driver attempting to leave was the responsible driver.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the responsible driver got out of his vehicle after the accident and assaulted the second driver.

During this encounter, the responsible driver reportedly punched the second driver and removed the keys from the second driver’s vehicle.

The responsible driver also reportedly demanded money from the second driver, forcibly checking the pockets of the second driver before returning to his vehicle and attempting to leave the area.

The responsible driver was placed under arrest for Unarmed Robbery and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and was lodged in the Genesee County Jail pending issuance of warrants.

*This significant event appears to be the spontaneous result of the accident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

On 05-17-26 (Sunday), at approximately 6:15PM, the CPD duty officer was clearing from a service request in the 400 blk. E. Vienna St. when he observed a motorcyclist riding westbound past the officer’s position at a high rate of speed.

The CPD officer pulled onto Vienna St., activating his lights and siren as he did so, but the motorcycle was already out of sight.

Upon closing distance and confirming a collision had occurred, the CPD duty officer advised dispatch the motorcycle struck the rear end of a vehicle that had been turning westbound onto Vienna Rd. At this time the duty officer exited his cruiser and began lifesaving efforts for the motorcycle operator, including CPR.

Within moments, first responders from GCSO and the Clio Area Fire Authority arrived on scene to take over lifesaving efforts, but the motorcycle operator was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

This Significant Event notification is offered to maintain transparency with CPD’s operations. As the accident, and all related investigative steps moving forward are in the jurisdiction of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, all future release of information will be incumbent on GCSO.
