Tomorrow begins the new school year in the Clio area. Please be cautious of students walking to and from school and school buses picking up and dropping off students.

Today, firefighters from the Clio Area Fire Department, along with a representative from Reliant Fire Apparatus, participated in hands-on training focused on fire pump operations.

This training provided firefighters with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of water flow while operating multiple fire apparatus and multiple hose streams using both municipal water systems and portable water tanks. These realistic scenarios help ensure our crews are prepared to efficiently manage water supply during emergency incidents.

Ongoing training and education are essential to maintaining the skills and knowledge needed to provide the highest level of service to our community. The Clio Area Fire Department remains committed to continuous improvement and readiness to serve those who depend on us.

Commercial Structure Fire – July 4, 2026

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 4, the Clio Area Fire Department was dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire in the 9200 block of Dort Highway in Thetford Township.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a working commercial structure fire with multiple vehicles involved inside the building. Firefighters from Clio and several surrounding departments worked together for several hours to bring the fire under control.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Clio Area Fire Authority Responds to Large Commercial Structure Fire in Vienna Township

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Clio Area Fire Authority was dispatched to the 11000 block of North Saginaw Road for a reported commercial structure fire in Vienna Township.

Initial information from Genesee County 911 reported smoke and flames coming from a commercial building measuring approximately 100 feet by 160 feet. All occupants had safely evacuated the building prior to the arrival of emergency crews.

Due to the size of the building and the reported fire conditions, the incident was upgraded to a second box alarm, bringing additional firefighters and equipment from neighboring departments.

Upon arrival, firefighters initiated an interior fire attack. As fire conditions continued to worsen, crews were forced to transition to defensive operations in order to protect nearby buildings and prevent further fire spread.

As the incident continued, a third box alarm was requested to provide additional personnel, fire apparatus, and support for extensive firefighting and overhaul operations. Nearly 50 firefighters worked throughout the day to bring the fire under control.

Crews remained on scene through the afternoon and early evening extinguishing hot spots and conducting overhaul operations.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Clio Area Fire Authority would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance during this large and challenging incident. We would also like to thank the community members who provided water, sports drinks, snacks, and other support to firefighters working on the scene throughout the day.

This incident highlights the importance of strong mutual aid partnerships. The resources and personnel provided by neighboring departments played a critical role in bringing this fire under control and protecting surrounding properties.
