Room at the Inn COMO Room at the Inn provides emergency shelter for those experiencing homelessness in Columbia, MO.

Room at the Inn is an interfaith and community effort to provide a warm and safe place to sleep for the homeless in Columbia, Missouri. The shelter rotates between several churches during December-March and literally HUNDREDS of volunteers give countless hours to the shelter. Room at the Inn is affiliated with the Columbia Alliance To Combat Homelessness (CATCH), a 501c3 organization.

We’re currently seeking donations of gently used smartphones to support our neighbors. Access to a working phone is more than a convenience—it’s a critical tool for stability and independence.

Why phones matter:

• 📞 Job opportunities – Employers need a reliable way to contact applicants

• 🏥 Healthcare access – Schedule appointments, receive reminders, and access telehealth services

• 🏠 Housing support – Communicate with caseworkers, landlords, and emergency services

We have 2 exciting volunteer opportunities, and we're reaching out to our community first.

Our shelter-to-Turning Point route runs every weekday in two shifts:

🕣 Morning: 7:30–9:00 AM
🕓 Afternoon: 3:30–5:00 PM

Wanting to volunteer behind the scenes?
We also have openings for food donation pickups if you have availability during the day.

💙 Now Hiring: Shelter Advocates 💙

Room at the Inn is looking for compassionate, dependable people to join our frontline shelter team. Shelter Advocates help create a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness while supporting daily shelter operations.

✨ Positions available:
• Full-time
• Part-time / Weekend
• Shifts: 5pm–1am and 1am–9am

✨ What you’ll do:
• Support guests using a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach
• Help maintain safety and calm within the shelter
• De-escalate conflicts and respond to crises
• Assist with check-in/check-out, light cleaning, meals, and documentation

✨ What we’re looking for:
• High school diploma or GED
• Experience with vulnerable populations (preferred)
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills
• Reliable, team-oriented, and calm under pressure
• Ability to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
• Training provided
