Our residents are putting their skills to work through our plumbing vocational program with Freeland Contracting Company!

Through hands-on training and education, Freeland provides residents with the opportunity to develop valuable, in-demand plumbing skills while working toward earning their plumbing certification. But the opportunity doesn’t stop at graduation...participants are also building a pathway toward gainful employment with Freeland or one of their partner agencies following their time at CBCF.

Programs like this are about more than learning a trade. They’re about creating real opportunities for independence, stability, and long-term success in the community.

We are incredibly grateful to Freeland Contracting Company for investing in our residents and helping turn second chances into sustainable futures. 🔧🛠️

🎓 Happy Retirement (again!), Dr. Megan Mateer! 🎓

Last week, CBCF said a bittersweet goodbye to our incredible GED Instructor, Dr. Shelley Mateer, as she heads into retirement…for the second time!

Throughout her tenure at CBCF, Dr. Mateer helped countless residents achieve something that can truly change the trajectory of their lives: earning their GED. With each diploma came new opportunities for continuing education, meaningful employment, and a brighter future beyond our doors.

Dr. Mateer’s impact went far beyond academics. She brought an unwavering passion for education and a deeply held belief that everyone deserves a fair chance to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of their background or the path that brought them here. Our residents knew they had someone in their corner who believed in what they were capable of accomplishing.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, patience, encouragement, and heart Dr. Mateer gave to CBCF and our residents over the years. She will be deeply missed by residents and staff alike.

Now it’s time for her next adventure! We wish Dr. Mateer a very happy retirement and safe travels as she sets out to explore the United States with her husband. 🗺️

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day and, today, our residents and staff came together to remember the lives lost to overdose and honor the loved ones whose absence continues to be felt.

Each name on this banner represents more than a loss. It represents a person who was loved and a life that mattered.

As we move into National Recovery Month, this banner will remain displayed in our middle foyer as a reminder of why the work of recovery matters 💜

Several Franklin County CBCF residents and staff had the opportunity to attend the 2026 Restored Citizens Summit in Columbus on Tuesday!

One of the highlights of the Summit was a powerful panel discussion focused on the challenges individuals face when returning home and the ways they can overcome barriers while building successful, meaningful lives in the community.

We were especially proud that all three panelists were Franklin County CBCF alumni, bringing their own lived experiences, lessons, and successes to the conversation. Among them was our very own Peer Support Specialist, Dustin Starkey, who continues to use his experience to encourage and support others on their own journeys.

We are incredibly proud to see former residents not only succeeding in their own lives, but returning to share their stories, give back, and help create a path forward for others.

A huge thank you to the Restored Citizens Summit planning board, sponsors, panelists, presenters, and speakers who made this year’s event possible. 💙

Our Father’s Day family event was a reminder that a father’s love doesn’t disappear because life takes an unexpected turn. Every dad deserves the opportunity to create meaningful memories with the people who matter most. This year, our residents had the chance to fire up the grill and prepare a meal for their families 🌭🍔

A heartfelt thank you to the families and loved ones who joined us and continue to support these men on their journey. Your presence made the day unforgettable. 💙

We are also incredibly grateful to The Ridge Project for generously providing the food and helping make this special event possible.

Today, our staff and residents wore green in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental health impacts us all, and recovery, growth, and healing are possible when people have access to support, connection, and hope.

By wearing green, we stand together to help break the stigma surrounding mental health and to remind one another that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. 💚
