Leadership Columbus

Leadership Columbus The mission of Leadership Columbus is to develop, connect and inspire diverse leaders who serve as catalysts in building a strong and vibrant community.

An effective gauge of a community’s health and well being is the quality of the volunteer and civic contributions made by its leaders–those who serve on nonprofit boards and task forces, work with community groups and commissions and serve as elected officials. These citizen leaders must be nurtured and provided with the tools that enable them to be successful and inspires them to be committed and

passionate community trustees. Today, Leadership Columbus provides education and training for emerging and existing leaders in the Columbus area. Since 1974, Leadership Columbus has been the premier training ground to educate, empower, equip and prepare more than 2,900 individuals to become the current and future trustees in and for our community. Leadership Columbus graduates have contributed to the quality of life in Central Ohio by their deeds and actions. In addition to completing more than 200 community projects, Leadership Columbus alumni have assumed positions of leadership in government, banking, business, industry, nonprofit sectors, politics, journalism, education, philanthropy, law and neighborhood development. In addition, graduates populate the boards of the arts, health care and innumerable other nonprofit organizations in Central Ohio.

We’re halfway through our first Catalyst cohort, an offering of our Impact Lab, so it’s time to introduce the facilitators behind the experience: Regan Walsh and Juan Alvarez!

As Lead Facilitator, Regan brings expertise in adaptive and systems leadership, organizational resilience and peer learning. Juan integrates Conscious Leadership and mindfulness practices to help participants build self-awareness, self-regulation and self-transcendence.

Together, they’re helping our inaugural cohort of nonprofit executives grow as leaders and strengthen their impact.

Once a Leadership Columbus class, always a community. Alumni from the Signature Program Class of 2009 came back together to reconnect, reminisce, and see where the past 17 years have taken them.

Our alumni were at Franklin Park Conservatory’s Field to Table, where the food was fresh and the company was blooming!

The 18th annual event brought nearly 700 community and corporate leaders together for an evening celebrating the late-summer harvest and supporting the Conservatory’s community gardens, teen corps urban farming mentoring program, and community days to remove barriers to access.

A night full of good food, great company and plenty of reasons to celebrate what’s growing in our Columbus.

It was a great morning in the Short North with Experience Columbus, exploring the evolution of female leadership during their “Women Who Lead: Experience Columbus Speaker Series.” An inspiring panel shared insights on their experiences leading while navigating the “Columbus Way,” how social and political capital can be used to advocate for other women, and the importance of collaboration in driving progress.

We were especially proud to see Leadership Columbus alumni Habiba K. Bankston (SP ’20) and Stacy Radabaugh (SP ’08) as panelists, with Olivia Karp, ECI (SP ’22) hosting the event.

The Signature Program may have wrapped in June, but the connections certainly haven’t.

Last night, the Class of 2026 reunited for the first time since Nonprofit Board Governance Training. We love seeing this group continue to make time for one another and look forward to watching their connections grow in the years ahead!

Last night, our staff and Board of Trustees gathered to celebrate Tyler Schleich, who served on the Leadership Columbus Board from 2020 to 2026, and Ralph Smithers Jr, who served from 2023 to 2026.

We’re immensely grateful for their leadership, impact, and the direction they’ve helped chart for Leadership Columbus. Both were presented with a commemorative compass, symbolizing the guidance they’ve provided and the enduring connection that keeps us pointed toward a stronger Columbus.

Please join us in thanking Tyler and Ralph for helping Leadership Columbus stay on course!

Last week was the third Friday of the month, which means it was time for CreativeMornings Columbus to bring the community together for another morning of creativity, connection and, in this case, a little something sweet.

Leadership Columbus Alumni were with Annie Dickson, self-taught baker and founder and owner of Bite This by Annie. Annie’s talk explored the concept of “hospitality as love,” highlighting the magic that happens when we care for others, anticipate their needs, and allow ourselves to be open and vulnerable in the process.

The biggest takeaway? You can’t pour from an empty mixing bowl. Annie emphasized the importance of prioritizing self-care and making sure we don’t lose ourselves while nurturing others.

Thank you to Annie and the local CreativeMornings team for celebrating the creatives of Columbus! A morning well spent, with plenty of food for thought.
