It was supposed to be a quick blue paint job to get the rock ready for band camp and it turned into a minor WHS archeological effort.

I started peeling the paint away from a water pocket that had form on the side of the rock and ended up peeling the entire rock like an orange. Not sure how many layers and years of paint were coming off but there were some red layers and an old orange one.

All this made me wonder how long the rock had been there, (1961?) and it history. If anyone has some insight/memories/stories we would love to hear them.

It is a gazillion degrees outside so take a break and get a dose of Christmas in July!

Lots of previous, current, and future WAPA students perform at Crestfest every year so come on out Sunday for good time and to support a future good time.

If you find yourself at the Arts Festival this weekend be sure to swing by the Frozen Drink booth at Main & Civic Center (behind the Bicentennial Park Amphitheater). A WAPA Crew will be staffing it on Friday night and our buddies from Indianola will be there Saturday and Sunday. We get a cut of the sales and all of the tips!

The perfect wrap-up to the year! The weather was great and the music was even better...then the alumni joined in. This song (Birdland) was supposed to end the evening but the crowd wanted more. Not sure we have even done an encore before, and it was clear the band had not planned to do one, but their rendition of Vehicle was as high spirited as Birdland.

Kudo to Mr. Mitchell, current, and past members of the Whetstone Jazz Ensemble for a great night.

Join us at the Park of Roses for the last WAPA performance of the year. It is the unofficial end of the school year and the start of summer.

Rumor has it LOTS of alumni will be joining the Whetstone Jazz Ensembles for the last couple songs. The weather should be great and the music even better.
