Remember, turn around don’t down! If you are worried about your safety do not hesitate to call 911 before you get into a situation you can’t get out of.

A Flood Watch is in effect for South Central Texas from 7 PM this evening through 7 PM Tuesday, June 16. Heavy rain and lightning are expected with isolated pockets of more than 8 inches of rain possible. This rain may fall quickly in torrential downpours. Life threatening flooding is possible somewhere within the Flood Watch area. Stay weather aware and remember: turn around, don't drown.

Today, members of Comfort Volunteer Fire Department participated in live fire training alongside firefighters from Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department, Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department, and Boerne Fire Department.

The academy’s live burn day included interior fire attack scenarios in the burn building, as well as dumpster fire and vehicle fire evolutions. These controlled training environments allow firefighters to gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and sharpen the skills needed for real-world emergencies.

Training is one of the most important investments a volunteer fire department can make. Every hour spent learning, practicing, and working together helps ensure we are prepared when our community calls.

Thank you to the instructors, organizers, and partner departments who make opportunities like this possible.

Last night on I-10, one of our fire trucks was struck while crews were working an incident. Thankfully, no first responders or patients from the original incident were injured. The driver of the vehicle was injured and transported for medical care. We are keeping them in our thoughts and wishing them a full recovery.

Move Over. It Saves Lives.

Every day, Texas first responders step out of their trucks and onto one of the most dangerous places to work: the shoulder of the highway.

Texas Move Over Law

If you see flashing lights on the side of the road, Texas law requires you to:

• Move over one lane if it is safe to do so
• Slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit if you cannot safely change lanes

It is not just a ticket. It can be the difference between someone going home or not.

The risk is real.

From 2013 to 2023, more than 50 first responders were struck and killed nationwide each year while working roadway incidents. In Texas, we have lost troopers, firefighters, EMTs, and tow operators, all hit by drivers who did not slow down or move over.

At 70 mph, a vehicle travels about 103 feet per second. That leaves almost no time to react if crews are standing near the roadway.

Why we park the way we park

When you pass a crash scene and see a fire truck blocking lanes at an angle, that is intentional. We call it a “block.”

• Angle of protection: The truck is positioned to take the hit instead of our firefighters, medics, law enforcement officers, and patients working behind it
• Buffer space: We leave room between the truck and the incident so crews have a safer area to work
• Upstream warning: Those big trucks with flashing lights give drivers time to see us, merge, and slow down

We would rather replace a $1 million fire truck than lose a firefighter, medic, law enforcement officer, tow operator, or member of the public. But we would prefer to do neither.

The next time you see flashing lights ahead, slow down, move over, and stay alert.

TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER

Emergency crews recently responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-10.

Thankfully, no first responders were injured. However, one of our vehicles was struck while responding to the incident.

This serves as an important reminder that when you see emergency lights, sirens, or crews working along the roadway, please slow down, move over when possible, and stay alert.

Every firefighter, law enforcement officer, EMS provider, and tow operator working on the side of the road has a family waiting for them to come home safely.

A few extra seconds of attention can prevent another crash and help protect those who are responding to help others.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our roads and first responders safe.

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚧

Motorists should expect delays near Exit 528 on Interstate 10 due to a traffic accident.

Traffic in the area has been reduced to one lane while emergency crews work the scene.

No firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, or other first responders were injured during the incident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is leading the investigation and will release additional information as it becomes available.

Please use caution if traveling through the area and be alert for emergency vehicles and personnel on the roadway.

🚨 Rescue Boat Training 🚨

This weekend, members of the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department participated in rescue boat training in Kerrville alongside Center Point VFD and Mountain Home VFD.

Hands-on training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to respond to water emergencies, flood events, and river rescues throughout our area

We extend our sincere gratitude to the generous donors whose support made this possible by providing new equipment and funding these critical training opportunities. Your investment helps us maintain the skills and resources needed to protect our community.

Kendall County is currently under a Flash Flood Watch as rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the area today and tonight. Heavy rainfall may lead to flooding of low water crossings, creeks, roadways, and other flood-prone areas. Strong storms could also produce gusty winds and hail.

⚠️ Safety Reminders:
• Never drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown
• Slow down during heavy rain and watch for water-covered roads
• Secure outdoor items ahead of storms
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Stay weather aware throughout the day and evening
