The first recorded climb to, the worlds highest point, the summit of Mount Everest occurred on May 29 at 11:30am. Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary were part of a British expedition.
The accomplishment was announced on June 2, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.
