National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day encourages us to show kindness and empathy to those who are hurting and to let them know they are not alone or forgotten.

This day is of special significance to my family and me.

The loss of a child is a traumatic and heartbreaking event. It is an experience that many face. The joy of an announced pregnancy turns to grief as a life is lost. Even a very short life is impactful in so many ways, and the grief of those who mourn the loss of these lives is very, very real.

Our faith must allow us to achieve some small amount of comfort, but I can tell you that the loss is overwhelming. It is real.

To all who have suffered such loss--whether through miscarriage or stillbirth or some other form of infant loss--- please know that there are many of us who sympathize and empathize. Please know that there are many who are here to offer our support.

This afternoon I rode along on the back channel of the Ohio River with towhship officials, Senator Fontana, businesspeople, and parents and coaches of local Row Crews.
We toured around Neville Island to discuss the possibility of a public dock and other improvements to Riverfront Park.

On October 13, 1775, a formal resolution of the Continental Congress established what is now the United States Navy.

After the war, the United State Constitution empowered the new Congress “to provide and maintain a navy.” Acting on this authority, Congress established the Department of the Navy on April 30, 1778.

Back in 1972, Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt authorized the official recognition of October 13 as the birthday of the U.S. Navy.

Happy birthday to those who serve and those who served in the Navy!

October 11 has been designated as General Pulaski Memorial Day

This is a day to recognize and honor Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski, a Polish-born hero of the American Revolution, who gave his life 242 years ago in defense of our cause to establish the United States as a free and independent Nation.

Known as the “Father of the American Cavalry” for his leadership and military skills, General Pulaski’s service and sacrifice remain a shining example of the countless contributions that immigrants have made to help build our great Nation
