We’re honored to share that several of our dedicated Shelby County 911 telecommunicators are deploying to North Carolina as part of the Alabama TERT (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce) to support relief efforts after Hurricane Helene.

Our thoughts are with everyone in North Carolina impacted by the storm, and we hope our team can offer some relief during this difficult time. We also want to recognize Katie, Kassadie, Kat, Linsey, and Laura, who have volunteered to spend 14 days away from their families to help where they’re needed most. Their willingness to serve in challenging conditions, with limited contact with loved ones, speaks to their commitment to others. We’re grateful for their service.
They’ll be working alongside personnel from Hoover 911 and the Madison County Sheriff's Office to provide much need relief to the communications professionals in North Carolina.

We also want to extend our thanks to our committed dispatchers who have remained at home and are working extra hours to continue providing vital services here in Shelby County.

We’ll do our best to share updates on their work and progress. Please keep them—and all those impacted by the hurricane—in your thoughts during this time.

Today, we are sending up prayers for our own Collin Nelson and the Alabama TERT (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Team) who have deployed to North Carolina to assist with the Hurricane Helene relief effort. ALTERT's mission will be to supplement telecommunicators who have worked nonstop since Helene's impact. In addition to Collin from the City of Hoover 911, ALTERT team includes members from Shelby County 911, Madison County 911, and City of Tuscaloosa 911, working inside a degraded 911 center.

ALTERT will be accompanied by a five member law enforcement and logistics team who will provide security for the Team while deployed. A bunk trailer and food truck will also be traveling with them to provide assistance and support the team.

This will be a challenging two-week deployment working in a highly challenging environment with very little infrastructure and support services along with potential environmental hazards. At this time, there is no cell service in the area where the team is headed so they will have very little communications with their loved ones during this time, if at all.

Aside from the ALTERT team, let's also keep all of our neighbors who have been affected by Hurricane Helene in our prayers. Their is a long road to recovery ahead and it will take help on all fronts to see these communities and families through.

Thank you to Cullman County Fire Association for letting us use their training center today & Vinemont Fire Department for letting Mobile set up their equipment last night and run the drill this morning!

We couldn't do any of this without help from local agencies. We appreciate the support tremendously. Teamwork is one of the most important components of TERT - on teams, with local agencies, and with state agencies.
