Rabies Drive-Up Vaccination Clinic to be held at Allegany College on Monday, August 31 from 2 to 5 PM. Hosted by the Allegany County Health Department and the Allegany County Animal Shelter.

Cost is $10 per animal.

This is a drive-up clinic. Animals must remain in vehicles.
Cats must be in a secure carrier.
All animals must be at least 3 months of age.
All vaccinations will be one year unless proof of current vaccine is presented at the time of vaccination.

MEDICALLY TAILORED MEALS PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE IN ALLEGANY COUNTY FOR THOSE WITH DIABETES

Living with diabetes? A new FREE program may help eligible Allegany County residents manage their health through nutritious, medically tailored meals delivered right to their homes.

Launched in April 2026, the Maryland Department of Health’s Medically Tailored Meals (MTM) Program provides personalized meals and nutrition support for eligible residents with diabetes.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE

At no cost, enrolled participants receive:

• 12 frozen, medically tailored entrées each week for six months
• Additional fresh or frozen produce, as needed
• Oral nutrition supplements, when prescribed by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
• Ongoing nutrition counseling and assessment from a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist licensed in Maryland
• Meals for minor dependent children living in the participant’s household

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Allegany County residents may be eligible if, during the past year, they:

• Visited the hospital two or more times because of diabetes; OR
• Experienced a diabetes Prevention Quality Indicator (PQI) event, such as diabetic coma, ketoacidosis, kidney, eye or neurological complications of diabetes, diabetes-related amputation, or hyperosmolarity.

Important: Participation in programs such as WIC or SNAP does not affect eligibility. Insurance status and income also do not affect eligibility.

HOW PATIENTS CAN ENROLL

There are two ways to get started:

Option 1: Talk with your healthcare provider, nurse or social worker. They can determine whether you are eligible and refer you to the program.

Option 2: If you think you may qualify but do not have a provider who can refer you, contact Food & Friends directly at 202-269-6881 for more information.
