We would to extend our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Massachusetts Department of Correction Corrections Officer John Edwards.

RIP CO Edwards and thank for your service.

It is with profound sadness that the Massachusetts Department of Correction announces the sudden line-of-duty death of Correction Officer John Edwards, a 28-year veteran of the Department assigned to North Central Correctional Institution in Gardner. This morning, Officer Edwards suffered a medical emergency at his post and passed away.

Commissioner Shawn Jenkins issued the following statement in tribute to the fallen officer:

“Today, we mourn the loss of Correction Officer John Edwards, who served the Department of Correction for nearly three decades with unwavering dedication to our public safety mission. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, and offer them our full support in the difficult days ahead. His service will never be forgotten.”

Law Enforcement Torch Run

Several of our Officers and members of the Cumberland PD family joined members from several departments as the Woonsocket leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Rhode Island made it's way through Cumberland from Rt. 99 to the Lincoln Line (Ann & Hope Way).

Thanks to everyone who cheered on the runners. We wish the best of luck to all of the athletes who will be participating in the Special Olympics Rhode Island Summer Games this weekend.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Rhode Island has reached Cumberland and will be continuing South on Mendon Road from Rt. 99 to the Lincoln line (Ann & Hope Way).
*Expected arrival time is 11:22 a.m.*

We would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fellow Brother & Sister officers of Providence Police Department Officer John Abatiello.

RIP Ofc. Abatiello and thank you for your service.

The Providence Police Department mourns the loss of Officer John “Trigger” Abatiello, who passed away surrounded by family after 32 years of dedicated service to our city. A proud Marine Corps veteran and respected member of our department, Officer Abatiello devoted his entire career to patrol and serving the Providence community.

We honor his service, loyalty, and commitment. He will be deeply missed.
