Not all heroes wear capes… some wear safety vests and drive garbage trucks. 🦸‍♂️

In August, when a frightened young boy became separated from his family and ran toward their truck for help, Jose Garcia and Alberto Gutierrez, Republic Services drivers from right here in Rowlett, immediately stepped in. Alberto stayed with the child, located his home, and safely reunited him with his family.

Thank you, Alberto and Jose, for your quick thinking, compassion, and commitment to our Rowlett community. This is service at its very best. 👏👏👏

Thank you to Rowlett High School and Principal Dunphy for the invitation to last night’s Community Pep Rally! It’s always a great time celebrating our youth and getting them pumped up for another great year!

Students: enjoy every minute of your high school experience! Lean into the friendships, learning, and activities. Make the most of what you’re given.

Parents: cherish these moments, because they are fleeting. Go to the games, concerts and contests. Be there to support, help and volunteer. Most importantly, let your kid know you’ve got their back!

The Honorable Linda Griffin served Garland ISD for nearly 30 years with a fierce love for children and one-of-a-kind character that left an impression on all she met. She believed in her motto, ABC - Always Benefiting Children - and lived it out daily.

Linda: we will truly miss you. The City of Rowlett mourns your passing, but celebrates the legacy you’ve left behind. May all those you touched through your life of service find peace and comfort.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn Mrs. Linda L. Griffin’s passing. This is a tremendous loss for Garland ISD and the countless students, educators, families, and community members whose lives she touched.

🚧 Merritt Road Interconnector Public Meeting

Learn more about the proposed 0.6-mile Merritt Road Interconnector connecting Merritt Road to Liberty Grove Road near Chiesa Road.

The project includes a four-lane divided roadway, 10-foot shared-use paths and a bridge over Muddy Creek.
