Act Act exists to make neighborhood safety a normal reality for everyone. Our vision is to make neighborhood safety a normal reality for everyone.

THE NEED: Across Dallas, families who live in high-crime areas feel unsafe, like prisoners in their own homes, because of crime and violence occurring at nearby properties in their neighborhoods. They sleep away from windows to avoid stray bullets and their children face drugs and violence on their walks to school. Community violence is an adverse childhood experience (ACE) that can cause long-ter

m trauma and chronic health problems and also limit future opportunities. Crime and an absence of safety block the resolution of many of the inequities in our city, such as poverty, segregation, job access, housing, and neighborhood change. OUR MODEL: Act is a justice nonprofit that equips individuals who live in high-crime areas to fight crime on their street using the justice system. We are motivated by Christ's challenge to seek justice—every family has the right to live in a flourishing community. We serve clients who are religious and non-religious and who have diverse cultures and backgrounds. To our knowledge, Act is the only organization nationwide using our justice model to help residents rebuild their communities to become places of peace and safety. Act’s resident equipping and legal advocacy model connects neighbors with one another and provides education, tools, and volunteer lawyers from our partner law firms so that residents can hold the owners of drug houses and other high-crime properties accountable for the criminal activity. Strong collaboration is essential both to Act’s model and to the long-term sustainability of a neighborhood, and Act works closely with local neighborhood associations, churches, and nonprofits, as well as city stakeholders, including the Dallas Police Department, City Attorney’s Office, and Code Compliance. OUR IMPACT: Since 2009, Act has partnered with over 300 residents to resolve more than 200 crime properties across West Dallas, South Dallas, and South Oak Cliff, and Pleasant Grove. Our legacy West Dallas neighborhoods (where we have completed active casework) experienced up to a 50% reduction in crime. Neighborhood revitalization is more sustainable with Act’s model because the agents of change are the communities themselves standing up for justice and systemic change. In West Dallas, engaged community leaders have continued their efforts to maintain the peace and flourishing of these neighborhoods and have advocated for our work in other parts of the city. They demonstrate that equipping residents to be neighborhood guardians together is vital to sustaining long-term results. Communities have a vision of what is possible with a safer, more peaceful neighborhood, and we equip them to bring this vision to life. As one client shares, “I do what I do so that my children can see if you stand up for something, things can change.”

Join us in praying for Oak Cliff as this neighborhood experienced a five-alarm fire at a large apartment complex. With many injuries and an unknown number of fatalities, this community is hurting. Pray for those who have lost everything, lost friends and loved ones, and who are fighting for recovery from this devastating fire. Please pray for the community to rally around this neighborhood and be the hands and feet of Jesus to all in need.

We appreciate the ultimate sacrifice made so that we can experience and enjoy the freedoms we have today. We hope your Memorial Day was one spent cherishing loved ones and remembering those who have given everything so we can live freely.

Act is deeply grateful to receive a $30,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation! Their continued partnership will support a new civil justice initiative to hold the owners of crime-enabling commercial properties accountable and restore safety for vulnerable neighborhoods. This project is novel because it extends a proven civil justice model—traditionally applied to residential properties—into the commercial property context.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $30 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation's largest charitably-funded bar foundation.

Thank you, , for investing in a safer and more just future!

But how does Act actually shut down drug houses? 🤔

🌱 What we created was a theory of change that creates a private solution to the public problem these drug houses pose.

⚖️ Through the use of existing civil laws, we represent the brave concerned residents living in proximity to a drug house, and seek a court order forcing the owner to stop the illegal activity.

🚔️ The police attempt to disrupt this crime by requiring probable cause before busting a drug house. They obtain a warrant, raid the property, make arrests, and confiscate any contraband. Unfortunately, those drug houses tend to reopen within days, if not hours.

👨🏻‍💼🧑🏾‍⚖️👮🏽‍♂️👩🏾‍🌾 Our approach disrupts this illegal activity and provides a sustainable solution that brings neighbors, law enforcement, churches, and pro bono attorneys together to tackle this entrenched problem.

💪🏽 We empower people to make neighborhoods safer and stronger.

Act is a Christian legal organization working to make neighborhood safety a normal reality for everyone. For 17 years in Dallas – and Fort Worth for 4 years now at the invitation of the Fort Worth Police Department – Act has partnered with brave families, law enforcement, and pro bono attorneys to shut down dangerous drug houses using the civil justice system.

So far, Act has helped close 282 drug houses (23 in Fort Worth alone), positively impacting more than 40,000 neighbors living nearby. It’s an innovative, collaborative approach that’s changing lives and restoring communities across our city.

Today is National Freedom Day, annually celebrated on February 1st to mark the end of slavery. In the year of America's 250th birthday, what better time than to celebrate this! The day honors the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. President Lincoln signed this monumental Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865.

We invite you to take a moment to celebrate the freedom we have today and this turning point in our country, taking steps to recognize the truth shared in Genesis 1:27 about all human beings made in God's image: "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

As a final Note of Shalom in our series, we are so, so grateful for you! Please see a note of encouragement from a former client. May their words of encouragement be true of us all this year.

"For a community to thrive, it takes a village, just like raising a child, it takes a village. It takes everybody taking ownership of their own neighborhood and reaching out to everything beside them, in front of them and behind them because we're all that village. So we need to recognize that and come together to do whatever we can do to make our world, our community, our existence better."

HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉

As we close the chapter on 2025, we want to say thank you for walking alongside us this year. Your partnership—through prayer, presence, and generosity—has helped bring peace and the opportunity to flourish to homes, streets, and neighborhoods across Dallas–Fort Worth.

As we step into 2026, we invite you to intentionally consider how you will invest your time, talent, and treasures to love your neighbors. This is the work of building God’s Kingdom rather than chasing the comforts, convenience, and successes of this world.

Thank you for helping make 2025 a year of transformation, and for joining us on this journey in 2026. May the New Year be filled with hope, courage, and the joy of seeing God’s Kingdom come in our community.

On the last day of 2025, here is a note that is truly an encouragement to us and all who invest in the safety of our neighbors:

"I just wanted to say thank you very much for everything you’ve done. The tide has finally turned in my neighborhood. It has literally taken years, but my street is finally being rid of the nuisance caused by all the drug dealers, pushers, and drug houses.

Y’all are a part of that. I’ve suffered many personal costs along the way as well — que sera.

Y’all are a great example of an exemplary Christian institution that actually walks the walk. I’m not a Christian myself, but I know it when I see it."

Light is shining brightly in dark places, and we can't do this alone! This is God’s calling to love our neighbors—and it’s work we can only do together.

Right now, every gift made by midnight tonight will be doubled through a generous $100,000 challenge gift. Your generosity will go twice as far to bring peace back to families, neighborhoods, and communities currently living in fear. What better way to close out the year than with an act of selflessness in loving your neighbor?

Make a Commitment to Safety today.
Peace, safety, and flourishing don’t happen by accident—they’re built day by day, through trust, presence, and persistence. Your gift helps make that transformation possible.
