HIGH FIVE FRIDAY What a Great Day at GSB! 👋
We had an incredible day today at Great Salt Bay Elementary School for our very first High Five Friday of the school year!
Public safety personnel from across Lincoln County joined us at GSB to welcome students as they arrived, and I think it’s safe to say we had just as much fun as the kids did. What started with a few hesitant smiles quickly turned into high fives, laughter, and some great interactions.
A special thank-you to GSB and their amazing staff for welcoming us and supporting this program. We also want to thank all of the students who took the time to interact with us. As the morning went on, we watched many of them become more comfortable and realize that we were simply there to have some fun and start their school day on a positive note.
These connections may seem small, but they can have a lasting impact. Every positive interaction we have with our young people helps build familiarity, trust, and positive relationships. When we later interact with a child or their family at their home, business, or during an official call for service, that familiarity can help put everyone at ease and make what may be a difficult situation a little easier to navigate.
High Five Friday will continue on the last Friday of each month while school is in session. We are already looking forward to the next one!
A huge thank-you to all of the agencies that came out to support the students and this program:
👮 Damariscotta Police Department
🚒 Damariscotta Fire Department
⭐ Lincoln County Sheriff's Office
🚑 CLC Ambulance Service
🚒 Newcastle Fire Department
Thank you to everyone who helped make our first High Five Friday such a great success. We’re looking forward to building even more positive relationships with the kids throughout the school year!
Respectfully,
Chief
