While most people in America recognize the sheriff as the chief law enforcement for the county, they would be surprised to know that the office of sheriff has a proud history that spans well over a thousand years, from the early Middle Ages to the present time. In Indiana, the Sheriff and his Deputies are sworn

police officers with the powers to make arrest, perform criminal investigations, conduct traffic enforcement, and investigate vehicle crashes. Other duties include the custody, care and transport of prisoners in the County Jail, and the safety and security of our courts. The Sheriff is also responsible for the serving of court papers and civil process and for the collection of unpaid taxes, as well as the selling of foreclosed homes and has a pivotal role in disaster preparedness.

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and recognizing the incredible men and women of our 911 Dispatch Center—the unseen heroes who show up every single day in the middle of chaos and turn it into coordination, care, and action.

While the work is serious, we made sure to bring some fun into the week with Dress-Up Days and a “Word of the Day” challenge for a little friendly competition. From creative outfits to shared laughs, it was a great reminder that even in a high-stress environment, connection and morale matter. We also had the opportunity to give back to our team with prizes for Best Dressed and Word of the Day Winner with some amazing donations from some local businesses—your support means more than you know.

To Our Dispatcher’s— THANK YOU for your professionalism, resilience , quick critical thinking, and your unwavering commitment to serving Adams County!! You are the first First Responders, and we appreciate everything you do, today and everyday💛💛

And to our Community and Local Partners—Thank You for helping us celebrate the people who are always there when it Matters Most💛💛

We would like to express our gratitude to all the people who work in Dispatch for First Responders. These people are the first contact our citizens have in the first responder process. They hear the worst of the worst and get Police, Fire, or EMS en route to help the citizens of Adams County. So if you know a Dispatcher, please say thank you to them for all they do.

They truly are the unseen heroes💛💛💛
