Why vote yes on Amendment 1? Raising your income taxes shouldn’t be easy.

Iowa Republicans have made huge progress in making sure families keep more of what they earn. Amendment 1 makes that progress permanent.

By establishing a higher 2/3 supermajority standard for income tax hikes, Amendment 1 forces lawmakers to prioritize spending discipline before asking taxpayers for a single extra dime. Majorities may change, but your constitutional protections should last. If politicians want to raise your individual or corporate income taxes, they should have to prove it's necessary with broad, bipartisan agreement.

Rob Sand claims that Republicans passed a bill to restrict his powers, but that’s not the truth. An audit of state spending shouldn't give the government open access to your personal medical records, confidential student details, or sensitive tax returns. Iowa House Republicans passed SF478 to ensure the State Auditor retains full authority to uncover fraud while putting guardrails on government overreach.

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: The State Auditor’s Office retains every tool necessary to audit state agencies and investigate fraud under federal audit standards.
𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: SF478 prevents state officials from demanding access to confidential personal, student, and medical records that have nothing to do with financial waste.
𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: It stops state agencies from dragging each other into expensive, taxpayer-funded court battles by setting up a streamlined process.
