Join in celebrating the successful completion of the National Jail Leadership Command Academy (NJLCA) Class #56!

Our very own Deputy Director Marydell Guevara helped lead the academy as an instructor, while Boot Camp Program Captain Natasha Reese served as a mentor for the class.

The academy brings together corrections professionals from across the nation for one of the top leadership training programs in the field.

Last week, MDCR broke ground on our future headquarters and centralized intake and release facility—a project that will modernize operations, support our workforce, and strengthen our ability to serve the community for years to come.

Staff have completed advanced training in defensive tactics, first aid, crisis negotiation, and emergency response. The primary mission of the ERT is to uphold the safety and security of our staff, inmates, and the public.

Over the next 24 weeks, these trainees will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to join our  as Correctional Officers.

After 37 years of dedicated service, bids farewell to Senior Personnel Specialist Shawntia Kirkland.
 
Since beginning her journey with our department in 1991, Shawntia has embraced every opportunity for growth, serving in a variety of roles before ultimately finding her home in the Benefits Unit.
 
Among her fondest memories are the friendships she built along the way and the pride she took in helping our staff. For Shawntia, serving others was never just part of the job—it came straight from the heart.
