Hello,
This is Michelle Kokindo, Assistant Principal of the Dunmore Elementary Center calling with important reminders for back to school. Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26th is Kindergarten Orientation from 1:00-2:00 at the D.E.C. Parents may walk students to their classrooms to drop them off and then pick them up at 2:00 outside of their classroom doors. Please park in the parent parking lot near the baseball field. There will not be bus transportation for Kindergarten Orientation.
Thursday, August 27th, is the first day of school for all students. The DEC doors open no earlier than 7:45. If you are dropping off your students in the morning please arrive between 7:45 and 8:15 as our middle and high school students will be arriving before that. Parents are permitted to walk their students up the front ramp and into the building to their classrooms on the first day only, but must leave before the bell rings at 8:19. Parking will be limited, but you may attempt to park in the parent lot near the baseball field only. Please do not park in the large lot in the center of campus as that is designated for staff only. As always, grab and go breakfast is available daily to students for free from 7:45-8:15.
If you are dropping off, please use the circle near the flagpole. Once you enter the circle, allow your students to exit the car. Do not wait to be the first car in line to drop off. The late bell in the morning rings at 8:19. At dismissal, the first run students will be loaded onto the buses before the walkers are dismissed. If you are picking up your students as a walker, please do not crowd the sidewalk in front of the building until the buses pull away with the first run students. The congestion makes it very difficult to get our bus riders where they need to go safely. Walkers are dismissed at 2:40 followed by second run bus riders. If your student is signed up to take the bus, they will be taking it home on the first day. We will not be accepting notes to changes in afternoon transportation from one day to the next for safety reasons. It is very difficult for our main office and teachers to keep track of constant changes in transportation. Therefor we will be starting with their consistent dismissal routines from day one. You may greet your students at the bus stops at the end of the day.
We will no longer be communicating using the Remind app. We will be communicating using a new app this year called Parent Square. I will send notifications of important events and reminders using this app and classroom teachers will be using it to post homework and other daily classroom news. An invitation to this app will been sent to the parent email that the district has on file, and a colored flyer will be sent home with your student this week with steps on how to activate your account and download the app. As always, follow our school website and page for the most up to date information as well. We are looking forward to a great start to a brand new school year and we are ready to welcome our students back on Thursday! See you all then!
