Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC) is the sole provider of comprehensive shelter and support services to survivors of domestic, sexual and family violence and human trafficking, and their families, in the Durham area. DCRC’s continuum of service includes a 24-Hour Help Line; emergency shelter; safety planning; crisis intervention; information and referrals for job training, housing, and childcare; counseling and support groups; legal advocacy; assistance with filing for victim compensation; hospital accompaniment; community education and outreach. All of DCRC’s services are free, confidential, and available in English and Spanish. DCRC also offers educational workshops and professional training for service providers, law enforcement, hospitals, faith-based organizations, schools, civic groups, and other community members. DCRC is here to help, and we do this by offering a place that is safe and secure—free from abuse. DCRC is a place where victims of domestic, sexual and family violence and human trafficking can find a safe haven, and with guidance and support, they can find their voice and the strength to rebuild their lives. DCRC is a refuge, a place of safety, hope, and new beginnings.

Surviving is just the beginning. 💜 Join us for Survive & Thrive on Friday, October 9, from 12–3 p.m. at the Main Durham County Library!

We’re so excited to announce our incredible speakers and panelists for an afternoon of powerful stories, honest conversations, connection, and community.

🎤 She Speaks: A Survivor Story featuring Brittany Frizzle, sharing her experience and perspective as a survivor.

⚖️ Breaking Free: A Panel Discussion on DV and Divorce Laws will explore the survivor experience and how North Carolina’s antiquated divorce laws—including the required one-year separation period—can create additional barriers for survivors trying to safely break free from an abusive relationship.

Join Senator Woodson Bradley, Charel Murrell, and Shana Carignan, moderated by Rebecca Feinglos, for this important conversation about what it takes to truly break free and move forward.

🤝 25+ community partners will be on hand to share resources, support, and connections around the intersections of domestic violence, sexual violence, mental health, housing, legal advocacy, and more.

👗 And don’t miss the Pennies for Change thrift boutique fashion show, proving that secondhand style can have a purpose!

Come hear survivor stories, learn something new, connect with local resources, and celebrate what it means to move beyond survival and thrive.

Please join us on Friday, October 2nd, at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Durham County Courthouse for a brief vigil honoring the people who have lost their lives across North Carolina in 2026 as a result of domestic violence.

Each year during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we gather for our Reading of the Names, a time to remember those whose lives have been taken and to recognize the devastating impact of domestic violence on individuals, families, and communities.

This year, we are proud to stand alongside Shining Light In Darkness and StandUp-SpeakOut of NC, two fellow DV/SA service providers in Durham, as a united front coming together for this important community event.

The program will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and will include local dignitaries who will read the names of those we are honoring.

Please reach out with any questions. We hope you’ll join us as we remember, honor, and stand together against domestic violence.

💜 Wear purple and join us.

We had a wonderful time with the Triangle Luncheon Civitan earlier this week!

A special thanks to Nancy, one of our super volunteers, for presenting about our programs and services around domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. Her presentation led to some great conversations and thoughtful discussion around the room.

We’re grateful to be able to do this work and especially grateful for the local civic groups who provide us with the opportunity to share our mission and help build a more informed and supportive community.

💙 DCRC was recently honored with the 2026 Bull City Sapphire Award at the 10th Annual Bull City Sapphire Awards Community Recognition Luncheon!

DCRC’s Board Chair, Dr. Carolyn Moore, was there to accept the award on behalf of the organization. We are so grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity to celebrate the work we do alongside our community.

On behalf of all of us at DCRC, thank you to the McNair-Harris Crescent Foundation and the Durham Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. for this incredible honor! 💙
