Established in 1951, Det 585 is located on the campus of Duke University and proudly serves both Duke and North Carolina Central Universities. Eagerly carrying out the mission of Air Force ROTC by producing quality leaders for the Air Force, Det 585 is a military educational program designed to give men and women the opportunity to become Air Force officers while earning a college degree.

Summer may be coming to a close, but the cadets are still at Maxwell enduring the grueling Alabama heat🔥🔥🔥

A few weeks ago, cadets Sureshbabu, Lovejoy, Stephens, and Sun graduated from Field Training at Maxwell AFB, Alabama and have joined the POC!

Every summer, the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, CO, conducts summer training opportunities for both USAFA and ROTC cadets.

This year, select 585 cadets were invited to participate in some of those events! C/Gorman participated in the Freefall program - the only certified skydiving course in the world where students make their first jump alone without an instructor.

C/Gorman completed 5 jumps during the roughly 2-week experience from around 5000 feet AGL. It also looks like he had some spare time for some sightseeing around the campus of USAFA too!

We are excited to announce the selection for promotion of two of our cadre members!

Our Detachment Recruiting Officer, Capt Andrew Pope, USAF, has been selected for promotion to the rank of Major.

Our Detachment Commander, Lt Col Bradley Maxon, USAF, has been selected for promotion to the rank of Colonel.

We congratulate both gentlemen on their well-earned selection and thank them for their continued service to Detachment 585 and our nation.

4/6 complete. Cadets Kelly and Tasker have officially conquered Field Training and are now part of the POC of 585. Along the way, they saw some familiar 585 faces, ate some delicious meals, and may have had a disagreement or two with the Mod 2 cadre…

At the conclusion of FT, C/Kelly was selected for an extended stay at Maxwell as a Cadet Training Assistant. With how long he’s been there, you could say his home really is in Alabama… Cue the music DJ.

He may not even be at Duke yet, but Cameron Lindsey is already crushing our PT awards.

(Future) cadet Lindsey dominated this week with just over 23 miles of running, grasping this Warrior of the Week with ease.

In just over a month, 585 will welcome Lindsey along with his fellow future cadets at New Student Orientation. Stay tuned!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE HAVE A NEW WINNER!

C/Lovejoy has conquered this week with 27.18 miles of running, ending C/Kelly’s 3-week winning streak of WOTW. K/Kelly has a (quite valid) excuse, though. He’s at Maxwell AFB for Max 4! We’re sure he and C/Lovejoy will be battling it out upon his return. Congratulations to C/Lovejoy on a well-deserved WOTW win and best wishes to our all-time champ C/Kelly at Field Training!

With yet another dominant performance, C/Kelly is once again our Warrior of the Week, logging an impressive 39.58 miles over summer break last week.

Back by popular demand, Warrior of the Week (WOTW) recognizes the cadet who runs the most miles each week to encourage readiness for the updated Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment, which now features a 2-mile run.

At the rate C/Kelly is going, those 2 miles should feel like a warm-up. Congratulations on another well-earned WOTW! 🏃‍♂️💪
