We enjoyed reading your responses to our whiteboard prompt "What's your favorite banned book?" so much that we decided to see which ones we had in our catalog. It turns out we have a bunch of them, and they're all available for checkout!

Visit the display case in the library lobby to see which titles we have, and stop by the Desk if you'd like to check one (or two!) out.

Many thanks to Professor Shane Maddock for his thought-provoking presentation about "The Myth of Musical Authenticity"! Last Thursday, Prof. Maddock spoke about his current research into the effect that the Southern Diaspora has had on American music since the end of World War II.

Our next Scholar Series presentation on Oct. 29 will feature Professor Amra Brooks and her book, "Mother is a Place".

It's Banned Books Week! According to the American Library Association, 5,668 books were banned from libraries in 2025, and an additional 920 were censored through access restrictions. This is both the highest number of titles censored in one year and the highest rate of challenges resulting in censorship from 1990-2025!

Of the unique titles challenged in 2025, 1,671 (40%) represent the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color.

Protect your right to read. Check out a banned book today. And visit our Banned Books Week whiteboard display in the library lobby
