August is Child Support Awareness Month in Preble County!

During today's meeting, the Preble County Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed August 2026 as Child Support Awareness Month, recognizing the important role child support services play in strengthening families and supporting the well-being of children throughout our community.

Child support professionals work each day to establish parentage, enforce support orders and connect families with resources, helping ensure children receive the financial, emotional and medical support they need to grow and thrive.

The commissioners also recognize and thank the parents who fulfill their responsibilities, the caregivers who support our children and the dedicated professionals and community partners who work together to strengthen Preble County families.

Throughout August, we encourage residents to recognize the importance of supporting our children and promoting healthy, strong families across Preble County.

⛈️🌪️ WEATHER 101 IS COMING TO PREBLE COUNTY! 🌪️⛈️

Want to better understand severe weather and learn how you can help keep our community safe? Preble County Emergency Management Agency is hosting Countywide Weather 101 with WHIO meteorologist Nick Dunn!

This FREE program is designed to provide weather knowledge for everyone — from first responders to families and members of the general public. All ages are welcome!

⏰ Training: 6-8 p.m.

Participants will learn how to recognize severe weather, understand what information is important to report and help keep our communities safer when severe weather strikes.

⚠️🌧️ WEATHER ALERT: SIGNIFICANT FLOODING RISK OVERNIGHT

Preble County residents should remain weather aware this evening and overnight as multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move through the area, bringing the potential for severe weather and significant flash flooding.

⛈️ WHAT TO EXPECT:
• The first round of storms is expected between approximately 6-11 p.m. and will have the greatest potential for severe weather.
• Additional storms are possible overnight, increasing the threat for flooding as rainfall accumulates.
• Forecast rainfall totals of 2-4 inches are possible across the area.
• Localized amounts of 5 inches or more could occur if storms repeatedly move over or stall across the same areas.

🌊 FLASH FLOODING COULD DEVELOP QUICKLY.

Residents should pay particular attention if they live near creeks, streams, low-lying areas or locations that have experienced flooding in the past. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway — Turn Around, Don't Drown.

📱 Keep multiple ways to receive weather warnings available overnight, including a charged cellphone with emergency alerts enabled. Do not rely solely on outdoor warning sirens for notification inside your home.

Please stay weather aware, monitor conditions and be prepared to act if a warning is issued for your area.

📣With more rain coming over the next few days, OUR COUNTY ISN'T OUT OF THE WOODS JUST YET.
⛈️🌧️Keep an eye on water ways and know with saturated grounds, it could rise very quickly when the rains begin again. Make sure to have multiple ways to get alerts and consider what you need and where you would go should you need to evacuate quickly. Stay safe! Preble County Emergency Management Agency

Additional storms will move into the region later in the day. The risk for heavy rain, including storms repeatedly moving over the same locations, will increase tonight and continue into Friday. This may result in renewed flash flooding and cause additional river flooding.
