🚂 Earlier this month, a group of rail enthusiasts from the Lorain Opportunity and Vocational Center (LOVC) gathered in Lorain to witness a truly historic moment—the arrival of Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive.

Originally built in the 1940s, Big Boy No. 4014 stands as one of the largest and most powerful steam engines ever constructed. As it rolled through Lorain on its nationwide tour, the sight and sound of this legendary locomotive created an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance. 🚂CHOO-CHOO!!

Earlier this month, a group of Adult Program participants from the Lorain Opportunity and Vocational Center enjoyed America’s favorite pastime as they spent the afternoon cheering on the Lake Erie Crushers. ⚾ It was a great day filled with excitement, team spirit, and plenty of smiles all around!

💛 A Royal Day to Remember 👑

On Friday, June 12, 2026, the Lorain Opportunity and Vocational Center had the absolute pleasure of welcoming a very special group of guests—the Lorain International Princesses.

Twenty-five incredible young women, each representing a variety of nationalities and cultures, joined us for a joyful afternoon dance party. From the moment they arrived, our adult participants greeted them with excitement and open hearts, ready to celebrate together.

The afternoon quickly filled with music, dancing, laughter, and meaningful connections. What began as a simple gathering turned into a beautiful celebration of community and friendship. Watching new bonds form and seeing the genuine joy on everyone’s faces made this event truly unforgettable.

We are deeply grateful to the Lorain International Princesses for sharing their time, energy, and kindness with us. Their visit brought so much happiness and created lasting memories for all involved.
It’s moments like these that remind us how powerful connection and inclusion can be 💫

Our Oberlin Adult Program participants found a fun way to beat the heat ☀️ today and spent the day at Lake Erie Lanes in Vermilion. Brian Austin is seen celebrating after rolling a strike and Tom Smith is lining up for his turn and wearing his lucky Bowling shirt too. 🎳

🎉🏅 State Games Success for Lorain Murray Ridge Spring/Summer Athletes! 🏅🎉
On Friday, May 29, Lorain Murray Ridge athletes traveled to The Ohio State University to compete in the Ohio Special Olympics State Summer Games. From May 29–31, 33 athletes proudly represented our program across four sports: Bocce (6), Tennis (7), Track & Field (11), and Traditional Volleyball (9).
And what an incredible showing it was! ❤️🖤
🥇 Bocce: 3 teams brought home a Gold, Silver, and 4th place finish
🥈 Volleyball: Our Raiders earned a Silver Medal, finishing 2nd against a very talented Henry County team
🎾 Tennis: 5 singles medals (3 Gold, 2 Silver) and in doubles—2 Silver, 1 Bronze
🏃 Track & Field: An outstanding performance with 5 Gold, 2 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals
👏 Both 4x100m relay teams also placed, earning a Bronze medal and a 4th place ribbon
We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes for their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship, truly showing all of Ohio what it means to be a Raider!
A huge thank you to our 14 coaches, volunteers, and Coordinator Shawn Hatcher for their support and commitment to making this experience possible. 🙌

National Donut Day was Friday, June 5th! Our Adult Program participants from the Oberlin Opportunity and Vocational Center visited the Expresso Bakery to pick up some of their favorites to celebrate 🍩😋

The Lorain Opportunity and Vocational Center has been out and about enjoying the sunshine and making the most of these beautiful days! ☀️

Our Adult Program participants have been staying active and having fun throughout the community, including flying kites, taking a scenic tram ride through the Lorain County Metro Parks, visiting Lakeview Park, and spending time at Sherod Park. 🛝

One of the highlights was seeing our adult participants embrace their playful side and enjoy the playground, sharing lots of smiles and laughter. 😀

These community connections provide opportunities for recreation, socialization and creating lasting memories. ❤️
