🚰 Water Notice: Discoloration After Maintenance

If you notice your tap water is still looking cloudy, brownish, or rusty after the recent water system maintenance don’t panic—this is normal and is temporary. It may be taking longer than expected but it will resolve itself.

Why it happens:
When the municipal water system is turned off and then back on for maintenance, the change in pressure can stir up harmless sediments (like minerals and iron) that naturally settle inside water lines over time. Once service is restored, those sediments can move through the pipes and briefly discolor the water.

What to know:
• The discoloration is not unusual after maintenance.
• It typically clears up as the water lines flush themselves out.
• The City understands how concerning and frustrating this can be. If there were a way to prevent it entirely, we would absolutely do so—but sediment movement is unavoidable in these situations.

Important reminder:
Please do not call 911 for water discoloration issues. Our police and fire departments do not have the ability to address water system concerns, and keeping emergency lines open helps ensure they’re available for true emergencies.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to maintain and improve our water system for everyone in order to prevent this from happening again.

UPDATE: Your water may run brown for a bit until everything settles down. The Water Department is aware and is working on mitigating it. This is unfortunately a normal factor when water is shut off and turned back on.

The Water Department is working on restoring the water service now. Please open a faucet in your home or business to allow air to push through. Thank you for your patience.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at the City of Emerado!

PSA: FIRE HYDRANT IS NOT BROKEN

Thank you for the calls and messages regarding the fire hydrant on Emery Ave. The hydrant is NOT broken and is functioning as it should. The hydrant is open to allow water to flow due to a valve issue at the water tower. The ice build up around it was from the mist and did not cause any damage, only some build up on the outside.

Water service has been restored.
