Dear Friend, I am writing to announce the opening of the 2026 Congressional App Challenge for Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District. This annual competition is designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding and is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. Please help us spread the word by sharing the attached PDF flier with your students.
Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, this competition challenges students to create an application for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, Raspberry Pi or other devices. Students may use any programming language, such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or "block code." The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle and high school students in Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District. The challenge is open to individuals as well as teams of up to four members. The submission period runs from May 1st through October 26th, 2026. Each year, the winner for Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District is chosen by expert judges and the submission is featured on the CAC Winners page. The winning app is also eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol and the app creators will be honored with other winners from across the country. The winning individual or team will be invited to D.C. by the Congressional App Challenge organization for an event called House of Code where they can connect with other winners and present their winning app.
