Happy World Geothermal Day! Are you familiar with the Smart Energy Initiative of Southeastern Pennsylvania? One of CCEDC's initiatives, they support the region’s smart energy industry by providing comprehensive workforce and business development services to partnering energy organizations.

Celebrating World Geothermal Energy Day!

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Smart Energy Initiative (SEI) is proud to mark this special day by highlighting the extraordinary potential of this energy source. Geothermal energy plays a vital role in creating a sustainable energy landscape. It aligns perfectly with our goals, which include developing a network of resources that nurtures and attracts energy businesses, promoting clean and renewable energy, and supporting future workforce development.

Geothermal energy stands as a prime example of renewable energy, harnessing the Earth's perpetual heat to power our homes and businesses. As we focus on regional and state-wide energy projects, initiatives, legislation, and financing, we recognize the pivotal role geothermal energy plays in the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. Join us in celebrating World Geothermal Energy Day and championing a greener tomorrow!

Celebrate National Business Women’s Week with us by recognizing the incredible contributions of women in the world of business! This week, we shine a spotlight on the remarkable women serving CCEDC - on board and on our team, inspiring change and leadership in our community.

While celebrating the contributions of women in business, it's also important to acknowledge that women are still facing discrimination in the business world. Women represent 58.4% of the US workforce as of September 2022 but only held 35% of senior leadership positions. Only 10.4% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women and less than 1% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women of color. We've come a long way, but clearly there's still a very long road ahead to ensure gender equality in the business world.

From left to right, Patti VanCleave of CCEDC, Helen Esbenshade of Lamb McErlane PC, Fawn Collingwood of United Safety & Survivability Corporation, MaryFrances McGarrity of CCEDC, Eileen Perpiglia of Longwood Gardens, Dr. Marta Yera Cronin of Delaware County Community College, Joyce Chester of Chester County OIC, Kara Rahn of Pennsylvania American Water, Marianne Stack of CCEDC and Leslie Rylke of CCEDC. Thank you for the time you have dedicated to giving guidance to CCEDC.

Learn about Ada Lovelace, the world's first computer programmer.

We’ve been so busy gearing up for GETT that we missed Ada Lovelace Day on Tuesday. However, she’s such an important figure that we wanted to make sure to share her legacy.

Ada Lovelace, born in 1815, was a remarkable mathematician and writer whose pioneering work in the 19th century laid the foundation for modern computer science and programming. She is best known for her collaboration with Charles Babbage, the inventor of the Analytical Engine, a conceptual mechanical general-purpose computer.

Lovelace's groundbreaking contribution came in the form of her notes on Babbage's Analytical Engine, where she not only translated an article by the Italian mathematician Luigi Federico Menabrea but also added her own extensive annotations and insights. In these notes, she outlined the idea of using algorithms to instruct the machine to perform specific tasks, effectively creating the world's first computer program.

Her visionary thinking extended beyond mere number-crunching, as she understood that the Analytical Engine could manipulate symbols and not just numbers. This insight foreshadowed the concept of software, making Ada Lovelace the world's first computer programmer and a trailblazing figure in the history of STEM. Her contributions continue to inspire and empower women and marginalized genders in science and technology today.

If you or someone you know is a girl between grades 5-10 that's interested in learning more about STEM and STEM careers, direct them to GETT. Learn more here: https://gettpa.org/. At AgConnect, we're celebrating the dedicated farmers who toil day in and day out to feed our communities. On this special day, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the farmers who play a crucial role in our local economy.

AgConnect, one of the Chester County Economic Development Council’s Next Generation Industry Partnerships, is here to support your agricultural success. We're here to empower farmers and agricultural business owners with the resources, training, and financing they need to thrive. Our mission is to foster agricultural economic development, and we couldn't do it without the hardworking individuals who till the soil and bring fresh food to our tables.

Join us in celebrating National Farmer's Day by visiting AgConnect's table at the upcoming Good Food Fest PA, the ultimate celebration of local food and agriculture in the greater Philadelphia area. It's an epic farmers market and event that brings farmers, food makers, and the local community together in one place. We'll be there to share our passion for agriculture and discuss how we can collaborate to support the growth of this vital industry.
