The Fayette Ambulance Service is excited to be back on the sidelines today providing EMS standby coverage for the first Upper Iowa University Peacock football game of the year! 🦚🏈

Even before the school year officially begins, FAS is here and ready to support our hometown team, student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans.

Having Upper Iowa University right here in Fayette is an important part of our community, and we’re proud to provide EMS coverage throughout the year at football games.

🚑 Fayette Ambulance Service at UIU! 🦚

Members of the Fayette Ambulance Service had a great opportunity today to attend Upper Iowa University’s New Student Resource Fair!

Driver Rick Hofmeyer, EMT Shawn Gilson, and Advanced EMT Nate Post represented FAS and spent time visiting with students about what it means to serve their community as part of a local EMS team.

We were excited to meet several students who expressed interest in earning their EMT certification and potentially joining our crew! 🚑

For UIU students interested in healthcare, emergency management, criminal justice, public safety, or simply serving others, becoming an EMT can provide valuable opportunities:

🚑 Gain real-world, hands-on emergency medical experience
🩺 Build practical patient care and assessment skills
📚 Apply classroom knowledge in real-life situations
🤝 Work alongside experienced EMS personnel and other public safety professionals
📄 Build your résumé with meaningful healthcare and community service experience
🎓 Earn a professional certification while completing your college education

And you don’t have to already be an EMT to get started! If you’re interested in earning your EMT certification and becoming part of our team, we’d love to talk with you about the process.

🚑 HOW DO I JOIN FAYETTE AMBULANCE SERVICE? 🚑

Have you ever thought about becoming an EMT, but weren’t sure where to start?

You don’t need to already be an EMT to join Fayette Ambulance Service! We can help you through the process from joining our team to finding an EMT class that works with your schedule.

Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Come Meet the Crew
Attend our monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Fayette Ambulance Station, directly across from Dollar General. Meet the crew, learn about the service, ask questions, and see if EMS might be a good fit for you.

2️⃣ Join the Team
Prospective members are voted on by the crew and then complete an employment application. Because we are a municipal ambulance service, our compensated volunteers are City of Fayette employees, so final hiring approval comes from the City Council.

3️⃣ Get CPR Certified
Once approved, you’ll need Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification. We can help you get that completed.

4️⃣ Start Getting Experience
Depending on your age and driving experience, you may be able to begin responding as an ambulance driver while working toward your EMT certification. This gives you the opportunity to start learning alongside experienced crew members.

5️⃣ Become an EMT — We’ll Help! 🎓
We will work with you to find an EMT class that fits your schedule. Fayette Ambulance Service can pay for your EMT education in exchange for a one-year service commitment.

💵 Compensated Volunteer Positions
• $15/hour while on calls
• $16/hour once certified as an EMT
• Training and hands-on experience
• Opportunity to serve your community while building valuable healthcare experience

No previous EMS or healthcare experience is required. We’re looking for people who are dependable, willing to learn, and interested in helping their community.

🚑 Interested but not ready to commit? Come check us out!

This Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., we are holding our monthly rig checks at the ambulance station. We’ll go through both ambulances to make sure equipment is stocked, supplies are not expired, and everything is where it belongs. It’s also how newer crew members learn where equipment is located.

You’re welcome to stop by, meet the crew, see our equipment, and get a firsthand look at Fayette Ambulance Service.

You don’t have to be an EMT to take the first step. Sometimes the first step is simply walking through the door. 🚑

🚑 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🚑

Fayette Ambulance Service is a volunteer service, which means when the pager goes off, our responders may be coming from home, work, or wherever they happen to be.

And sometimes… their mode of transportation to the station is a little unconventional. 😂

Today, one of our responders was working just a block away when the call came in. Instead of wasting time switching vehicles, they headed straight for the station in what they already had…

A forklift. 😂

When we say our volunteers answer the call from wherever they are, we mean it!

🚑 Car? Yep.
🚶 On foot? Sure.
🚲 Bike? Why not?
🏗️ Forklift? Apparently, we can check that one off the list now!
