Another Busy Training Night at Fayette Ambulance Service! 🚑

After responding to 4 emergency 911 calls in just 24 hours, our dedicated crew members continued putting in the work! Last night was our monthly rig check night, followed by Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR training.

We started the evening with our monthly ambulance inspections. Some crew members even arrived early to help get everything completed on time! These monthly checks allow us to ensure our supplies are properly stocked, medications and supplies are within their expiration dates, and all equipment is in good working order. With 8 crew members participating, teamwork made the process quick and efficient!

Following rig checks, EMT AnnMarie Knickerbocker and AEMT Nathan Post instructed a BLS CPR class for current crew members and a prospective new member interested in joining FAS.

BLS CPR certification is a requirement for all FAS crew members and must be renewed every two years. We are also excited that EMT AnnMarie is working toward becoming a certified CPR instructor!

Training, preparation, and teamwork are essential to providing quality emergency medical care to our community.

Our crew members continue to demonstrate their dedication, not only by answering emergency calls but also by putting in the time behind the scenes to ensure we are prepared for the next one.

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their evening to help keep our ambulances ready and their lifesaving skills up to date!

🚑🚒🚓📞 Happy National First Responders Day!

Today, October 28, Fayette Ambulance Service proudly recognizes the dedicated men and women who answer the call when emergencies and disasters strike.

To our fellow EMS providers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, and all first responders, thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

We especially want to recognize our first responder brothers and sisters here in the City of Fayette and throughout Fayette County. While we each have different responsibilities, training, and skills, we all share one common mission: helping others when they need us most.

We are fortunate to have such an outstanding group of first responders in the City of Fayette and throughout Fayette County who work together to serve our residents and visitors.

From all of us at Fayette Ambulance Service, THANK YOU for everything you do, not just today, but 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!

🍬 Fayette Candy Crawl! 🚑🌭

Fayette Ambulance Service was excited to participate in this morning’s Fayette Candy Crawl!

We were proud to partner with Thrivent to host this community event. Our crew spent the morning grilling and serving hot dogs, cookies, and bottled water to everyone who stopped by.

A special thank-you to Thrivent for partnering with us, and to Scott and Carolyn Luchsinger for doing the legwork to gather supplies and prepare for the event. We also appreciate everyone who came out to visit!

No taxpayer funds were used to purchase items for this event.

We are always grateful for opportunities to give back to the community we proudly serve! 🚑❤️

🚑🏈 Fayette Ambulance Service is proud to support today’s Upper Iowa University home football game by providing EMS standby coverage!

We even got our partners from the Fayette Police Department to join us for some photos! 🚓🚑 Teamwork across all branches of first responders is key to success!

🚑 Throwback Thursday – MAST Trousers! 🚑

Did you know that EMS crews once used inflatable pants to help treat patients in shock?

MAST (Military Anti-Shock Trousers) were once a common piece of equipment found on ambulances. These inflatable garments wrapped around a patient’s legs and abdomen and were designed to increase blood pressure by compressing the lower body.

MAST trousers were commonly used for patients experiencing severe blood loss, traumatic injuries, and certain types of shock.

Over time, research showed that MAST trousers did not provide the benefits originally expected and could actually worsen certain injuries. As EMS medicine advanced, they were largely phased out of routine ambulance use.

Today, EMS providers rely on more effective, evidence-based treatments to manage shock and traumatic injuries.

EMS has come a long way, and so has the equipment we use to save lives!
