🚨🚌 SCHOOL IS BACK — PLEASE SLOW DOWN & STAY ALERT! 🎒🚨

As both parents and members of Pearce’s Mill Fire Department, this message hits close to home for us. Many of us are putting our own children on school buses, dropping them off at school, or watching them walk out the door for another school year.

Today, tomorrow, and every school day that follows, we’re asking our community to take a few extra seconds and watch out for our kids.

🚸 Please remember:
• Slow down in neighborhoods, school zones, and around bus stops.
• Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
• Watch closely for children walking, biking, or crossing the street.
• Be prepared for children to make sudden or unexpected movements.
• Give school buses plenty of room and expect frequent stops.
• Never pass a stopped school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended.
• Give yourself a little extra time in the mornings and afternoons. Getting somewhere a few minutes late is never worth putting a child’s life at risk.

As parents, we teach our children to look both ways, stay away from the roadway, and pay attention around traffic. But they’re still children. They can get excited, distracted, or make a mistake.

That’s why we need every driver to do their part, too.

When you see that school bus stopping tomorrow morning, remember there’s a mom, dad, grandparent, or guardian who just watched someone they love climb aboard.

That backpack belongs to somebody’s whole world.

From the parents and members of Pearce’s Mill Fire Department, please help us keep every child in our community safe — not just on the first day, but every single day of the school year.

Today, members of the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department are at the REV Group facility in Holden, Louisiana, completing the final acceptance inspection of our new Engine 311.

We are incredibly thankful and humbled to have the opportunity to be in this position. Investments like this are only possible because of the continued support of our Board of Directors, Cumberland County, and the citizens we are honored to serve. We never take that support for granted, and we are committed to being good stewards of every dollar invested in our department.

During the final acceptance process, our members are carefully inspecting every detail of our new KME Spartan engine—verifying specifications, testing equipment, checking safety systems, and ensuring everything is built exactly as ordered. This is our opportunity to make sure Engine 311 is not only ready for service but also provides the safest and most reliable apparatus possible for our firefighters and our community.

This isn’t just about taking delivery of a new fire truck—it’s about ensuring we have the best tools available to protect the citizens of Pearce’s Mill while keeping our firefighters safe.

We want to thank everyone who has played a part in making this project a reality. We can’t wait to bring Engine 311 home and put it into service for the community we proudly serve.

🚨 🐾 Please Help Us Welcome Our Newest Member… HERO! 🐾🚨

Today, we are incredibly excited to welcome Hero, the newest member of the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department family!

Hero is a 2-year-old Dalmatian who was generously donated to our department by the incredible team at Summers SafeHaven Animal Rescue Inc. in Conway, South Carolina. We cannot thank them enough for entrusting us with such an amazing companion. Their mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding loving homes for animals is truly inspiring, and we encourage everyone to check out and support the outstanding work they do.

Tonight marks Hero’s first night at the station as he begins settling into his forever home. From the moment he arrived, he’s been full of personality, curiosity, and affection, and it’s already clear that he’s going to fit right in with our fire family.

Station dogs have a long history in the fire service, and they bring much more than smiles. Studies have shown that having dogs in the workplace can help reduce stress, improve morale, encourage teamwork, and create a more positive work environment. For first responders who often face physically and emotionally demanding situations, the simple presence of a dog can provide comfort, emotional support, and a welcome distraction after difficult calls.

Our hope is that Hero will become more than just our station dog. We look forward to having him participate in community events, public education programs, and department functions, where he’ll help us connect with the citizens we proudly serve while bringing smiles to children and adults alike.

A very special thank you goes out to the members of Pearce’s Mill Fire Department who have already donated food, toys, bedding, treats, and other supplies to make Hero feel right at home. Your generosity has made his transition into our family a truly special one.

Welcome home, Hero. We promise you’ll be loved, well cared for, and part of this family for many years to come. ❤️🐾

🚨 Public Notice – Smoke in the Area 🚨

If you are in the area of Black & Decker Road near UPS, you may notice smoke over the next couple of days.

This smoke is the result of a woods fire that occurred earlier this morning. The fire has been contained, but it will continue to smolder and produce visible smoke as crews allow it to burn out safely.

The North Carolina Forest Service has been notified and is aware of the situation.

There is no immediate threat to the public. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the remaining hot spots continue to smolder.

Please help us in welcoming the newest addition to the Pearce’s Mill FD family — Baby Huxton Daniel Gustafson!

Congratulations to Lieutenant Ryan Gustafson and his wife Megan on the arrival of their beautiful baby boy. Mom and baby are both doing great, and we couldn’t be happier for their growing family.

We wish the Gustafson family a lifetime full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories as they begin this exciting new chapter together.

Career Day is always better when your favorite fire department shows up. This week at Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary School was no different.
