Congratulations to Deb Cain, the 2026 Harold "Gene" Stofer Trustee of the Year!

The Indiana Township Association is thrilled to announce that Deb Cain, Center Township Trustee in Grant County, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2026 Harold "Gene" Stofer Trustee of the Year Award!

Deb was presented with this distinguished honor during the ITA Awards Banquet on October 8, 2026, in Noblesville, Indiana.

This award is one of the highest honors bestowed by the Indiana Township Association, recognizing exceptional leadership, dedication to public service, and an extraordinary commitment to the people and communities township government serves.

Deb's leadership is a shining example of what township government is all about, serving others, protecting community resources, and making a lasting difference.

One remarkable example of her dedication is her work with the historic Marion IOOF Cemetery. Her commitment to caring for this important community landmark demonstrates that township service extends far beyond providing assistance to those in need. It is also about honoring our history, respecting those who came before us, and preserving these places for future generations.

In addition to serving the residents of Center Township, Deb serves as the ITA's East Central Area Director, sharing her experience, leadership, and passion for township government with fellow trustees throughout Indiana.

Deb represents the very best of public service, and we could not be more proud to recognize her accomplishments!

Please join us in congratulating Lisa Pierzakowski, Center Township Trustee in La Porte County, on being elected the next President of the Indiana Township Association!

Elected by her fellow township officials from across Indiana, Lisa will begin her two-year term on January 1, 2027. With 12 years of service as a township trustee, six years as ITA Vice President, and recognition as Indiana Township Trustee of the Year in 2018, Lisa brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and passion for township government to this important leadership role.

As we welcome Lisa, we also want to recognize and thank our current President, Marilyn “Kay” Walker, for six outstanding years of leadership. Kay has been a steadfast advocate for Indiana's townships, and we are fortunate that she will continue serving on the ITA Board of Directors as Past President.

This is an exciting time for the Indiana Township Association as we continue working to strengthen township government and support the dedicated officials who serve Hoosiers every day.

Congratulations, Lisa, and thank you, Kay! We look forward to the next chapter of leadership at the ITA!

Some stories remind us exactly why township government matters.

When families saw a historic cemetery falling into neglect, Center Township Trustee Deb Cain refused to simply look the other way. She fought for the right to care for it... and today, Marion IOOF Cemetery is being restored with the dignity, respect, and care generations of families deserve.

This is public service that goes beyond the job description. This is Township Government serving those in the community, even those without a voice.
