Applying for Medicaid home care services can be stressful — especially for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
One issue we often see during home care assessments is that the nurse may rely heavily on the applicant’s answers, even when a caregiver is providing most of the day-to-day assistance.
For example:
A spouse may explain that they help with bathing, dressing, meals, medications, and other daily activities — but the applicant may respond: “I don’t need help.”
Unfortunately, this can sometimes lead to a denial of needed services.
Caregivers should be prepared for the assessment process and make sure the full picture of the applicant’s daily care needs is clearly communicated.
Understanding how these evaluations work can make a major difference when applying for home care benefits. Preparing for a home care assessment? Contact us today to discuss your situation.
