Through decades of discipline, commitment and relentless pursuit of mastery, Sgt. 1st Class Walton Glenn Eller III, an Olympic gold medalist, and Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Holguin, an Olympian, ISSF World Cup champion and World Championship silver medalist, represented the United States on the world’s biggest stage while serving their country as Soldiers. Today they both retired from the U.S. Army.

The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Service Rifle Team delivered a dominant performance at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s National Highpower Championships, a 2400‑point aggregate fired over three days of 800‑point matches plus a four‑person team event.

Staff Sgt. Shane Butler set the tone on Day 1 with a 794‑45x to take the win. Staff Sgt. Jared Desrosiers followed on Day 2, earning first place with a 794‑29x. On Day 3, Spc. Amber Kingshill closed out the individual portion with a commanding 796‑29x—earning both the Day 3 victory and the High Woman Award for the over all 2400 aggregate.

The action continues at Camp Perry as the Soldiers compete side by side against the top marksmen from other services as well as civilian competitors in the National Rifle Matches. Keep following for more updates.

USAMU Soldiers delivered dominant performances at the 2026 USPSA Multigun Nationals.

Sgt. Jon Wiedell put together one of the most commanding match performances of the championship, earning 1st Place in the Open Division and securing High Overall. Across the 12‑stage course of fire, Wiedell won six stages and placed second on five, showcasing unmatched consistency and control from start to finish.

Staff Sgt. Nate Staskiewicz added another USAMU victory, taking 1st Place in the Tactical Division with disciplined ex*****on across rifle, pistol and shotgun.

The match also saw former USAMU Soldier Daniel Horner return to the top of the podium, winning the Modified Division and adding another national title to his storied multigun career.

These performances highlight the precision, professionalism and competitive excellence that define the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit on the national stage.

Sgt. Samantha Simonton delivered a standout performance in Hangzhou, China, where the battle for gold came down to an all‑American showdown. Six‑time Olympic medalist Kimberly Rhode claimed the Gold Medal, while Simonton stayed in the fight throughout the match, posting 32 hits to secure the Silver Medal in Women’s S***t at the ISSF World Cup — a memorable finish for Team USA.

During the CMP National Matches, the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit’s Service Pistol Team didn’t step off the firing line when the National Pistol Matches wrapped up each afternoon. Instead, they moved straight into the National Air Pistol events held later in the day—using the extra match time to sharpen their skills and gain valuable training under pressure.

The National Air Pistol matches also offered something special: the chance to work alongside a talented 13‑year‑old junior marksman.

Sergeant 1st Class Ryan Adams, Staff Sgt. Anthony Heinauer and Staff Sgt. Jason Gregoire teamed with civilian athlete Luke Messerschmidt to earn second place in the four‑man air pistol team event. Messerschmidt also secured third in the 15‑and‑younger category.

Every competition is an opportunity to sharpen the skills that matter most.

Staff Sgt. Jared Desrosiers and Sgt. Dustin Carr of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Service Rifle Team earned second place at the NRL Hunter competition at the Clinton House in Clinton, South Carolina. The match challenged competitors to locate, range and engage unknown-distance targets while solving complex shooting problems under time pressure.

Working as a two-man team, Desrosiers and Carr relied on clear communication, trust and precision to navigate each stage. Those same skills are carried back to the unit, where they help train Soldiers and share lessons learned with sniper teams and marksmen across the Army.
