Don't Fall for Phone Scams. Scammers often impersonate government agencies, banks, utility companies, or even family members in distress. Protect yourself by following these simple tips:
• Don't answer calls from unknown numbers unless you're expecting one.
• Never give out personal, banking, or Social Security information over the phone.
• Be suspicious of callers who pressure you to act immediately or demand payment using gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.
• If someone claims to represent a business or government agency, hang up and call the organization back using a phone number you know is legitimate.
• If a call seems suspicious, block the number and report it to the appropriate authorities.
• Talk with older family members and friends about common scams—they are often targeted by fraudsters.
If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts. Hang up, verify the information independently, and never let a caller pressure you into making a quick decision.
