Frostproof Fire Department responded to an outside fire on Murray Road and Scenic Highway, near the railroad tracks.
Upon arrival, crews found two separate fires covering approximately 1.5 acres. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the flames and thoroughly overhauled the area to ensure the fire was completely out.
The fire appears to have been started when a passing train threw sparks onto dry, dead vegetation.
All of our firefighters worked hard in hot and tiring conditions and did an outstanding job containing and extinguishing the fire.
A special thank-you to PCFR Brush 26 for your assistance. We appreciate your support!
Great job by everyone involved!

EXTREME COLD WATCH and FREEZE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 9 above possible. For the Freeze Watch, a Hard Freeze with temperatures as low as 20 possible except for inland Manatee County, where temperatures will be as low as 30.

* WHERE...Coastal Hernando, Coastal Pasco, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Inland Hillsborough, Inland Manatee, Inland Pasco,
Polk, and Sumter Counties.

* WHEN...From Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 9 above zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Appropriate action should be taken to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have adequate protection from the cold temperatures. Young children, the elderly and the homeless are especially vulnerable to the cold. Take measures to protect them.

β„οΈπŸš’COLD WEATHER SAFETY ALERT FROM YOUR Frostproof Fire Department πŸš’β„οΈ

A powerful cold front is on the way that will be dropping temperatures into the 20’s and 30’s. Your Frostproof Fie Department wants to remind you that it's important to stay safe while using your heating systems for the first or second time this season. Keep these essential fire safety tips in mind:

πŸ”₯ Heating & Space Heater Tips
* Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything flammable, such as curtains, furniture, or bedding
* Use only space heaters equipped with an automatic shut-off feature
* Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet β€” avoid using extension cords or power strips
* Turn off heaters before going to bed or leaving the room

🏠 Preparing Your Home Heating System
* Have your furnace or heating system inspected and serviced if possible
* Clear dust and debris from vents and heaters to prevent odors and potential fires
* Keep combustibles away from your furnace or heat sources

🚨 Fire & Carbon Monoxide Safety
* Confirm that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning properly with fresh batteries
* Never use ovens, grills, or generators as a heating source

Being prepared can make a big difference in preventing fires during cold weather. Stay warm, stay safe, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any safety concerns. β€οΈπŸš’β„οΈ

January 4, 2026 marks a new chapter in public safety for the City of Frostproof.

On this date, the Frostproof Fire Department will officially transition from 40-hour coverage to 24-hour coverage, ensuring that a firefighter is always on duty at the station to respond to emergency calls and critical situations.
Over the past several months, Fire Department staff and personnel have worked diligently to remodel and prepare the station for this significant advancement in service to our community.

During this transition, Sunny Sky Products learned of the department’s plans and generously reached out to support our firefighters by donating two smart televisions and wall mounts, which will be installed in the firefighters’ bedrooms. This thoughtful contribution will help make the station feel more like home during extended shifts.

The Frostproof Fire Department would like to express its sincere appreciation to Sunny Sky Products for their generosity and continued commitment to the City of Frostproof. Being part of a community where local businesses step up to support public safety truly makes our city special.
A special thank you to Suneed Shaikh and Greg Respress for personally delivering the smart TVs and wall mounts to the Frostproof Fire Department.
Once again, thank you to Sunny Sky Products for your generosity and dedication to the City of Frostproof.
